Preview of Android 2.3.3 on Atrix 4G

Really...2.2.3? The phone was released on 2.2.1 in v1.26 and then updated to 2.2.2 in v1.83 which fixed some email glitches in Android I believe. The update people are talking about here is 2.3.3, Gingerbread, and 2.3.4, Gingerbread with video chat built in to Google Talk. 2.2.3 will most likely be skipped on the Atrix, and the only article I found about it on Google is that 2.2.3 worked on NFC compatibility which is pointless.
Check your Android version by going to Settings>About Phone.

Sorry, that was a typo. The version I run is 2.3.3

You don't need the update to enable sideloading, if that's what you mean. There are two ways to enable sideloading that are available - one is a paid app that you download from the market, called Non-Market Apps Enabler.

I don't understand the point of that app, comments say it only works on rooted phones. Rooted phones side load anyway.

Is it Moto or the carrier that pushes the updates...? I bought a Bell Atrix and unlocked it; it's currently on Telus. Am I gonna get the update when it comes out?

Alright... so, because i'm on telus, does that mean i won't get Gingerbread when Bell starts pushing it out? :'(

log on to your Motoblur account and see what it says is your provider.
Update go by provider, but they come out of Motorola (for Motoblur phones)..

Motoblur says Bell instead of Telus. Hopefully I'll be okay for the firmware push.
Sorry I was not clear in my post. It is the carrier that the phone was made for, so in this case, the OTA would be coming from Bell. Telus has nothing to do with the Atrix.

hummm.. I thought it is enabled on all phone, and all versions of Android.
Im almost certain that it was enabled on Atrix 4G ATT running Froyo. I know for sure that it is enabled on Gingerbread..
No, 'Allow installation of non-Market applications' was grayed out on the AT&T Atrix...that's why so many people complained about the AT&T Atrix.

Pretty sure I don't even have the "Allow installation of non-Market applications" available.

It's not there under Application Settings.

Wow..AT&T erased all trace of it. Usually if the carrier doesn't want the stock Android feature to be there they just inactivate it by graying it out.
I have the Bell Atrix, so I still have all of those goodies, lol.

Gloating, ill becomes you Roze! :):)

Those of us who have chosen to root, also have sideloading enabled - at least until we get the OTA update for Gingerbread. Then comes the Hamlet like decision.

Any word on when this update will hit the street? Don't they usually invite some people to be testers a little ahead of the actual release? Any word on that?

This seems like a big update and I can't wait!

well I don't get updates on the Bell Atrix...so I'll praise it where I can ;)

I CAN NOT WAIT until GingerBread 2.3 comes out!! AND it has the new Moto Blur which looks amazing since they got rid of that horrib Blur task bar with the little circle in the middle.
