Can anyone give me an idea of what the cost of your phone was after tax? I realize it'll be different state by state, but I feel like there is a mistake on my end.

I am in California and my subtotal was $214.98, I had a $100 credit with my upgrade, but they screwed up and only gave me a $50 credit and instead credited $50 to my account after the fact.

The CA Local Sales Tax was $10.76 and the CA State Sales Tax was $43.05.

Meanwhile, my friend who lives 45 minutes away, had a subtotal of 114.98 (We ordered both a Thunderbolt and a car charger) and his tax total came out to something like $13. He also received the full $100 credit initially unlike me.

So I guess I just wanted to hear from a few other people about their tax totals before I contact Verizon.

Anyone's help is appreciated. Thanks.
 
Phone with 2 year contract: 249.99

Sales tax @ 6%: $18.02

Total: 318.39

Without the accessories it would just be the price of your phone times the tax rate........
 
My total tax came out to $53.81 while my friend's (who purchased everything I did) came out to $13 and change. Paying $50 for tax seems a little ridiculous to me and I don't understand why my friend's would be so much cheaper then mine.
 
So your tax on two phones was roughly $26 while mine on one phone was $54. I'm probably going to contact verizon and see if there was some sort of mistake.

I definitely would. That is an outrageous amount. I just checked my receipt and I was off. It was $524.98, so exactly $25 tax for two.

I know the rate varies by state, but dang. :(
 
I know, right? Plus, my friend's tax was $13 or so and we had identical orders, except he had $100 credit vs. my $50 credit. I later had an additional $50 credited to my account though because they made a mistake since I was supposed to have $100 credit as well.

In California and some other states you are taxed on the FULL retail price. It doesn't matter how much the phone's subsidized cost is you still pay tax on the full price.

I would suggest that if you live in California or in one of the other states, you buy your phones from Amazon. No Sales Tax.

My issue though is with the fact that we both live in California and bought from verizonwireless.com and my tax is 4 times more than his was.
 
Actually now that I think about it, I have no charge whatsoever on my debit card for the Thunderbolt anymore and neither does my friend.

Is this normal practice or could it be because we were mischarged? My friend had to pay for overnight shipping and then in my case my theory that I'm getting overcharged tax. So we both have a reason why the charge wouldn't be there.

Anyone know if Verizon makes a habit of initial charging your card and then removing the charge only to later add it again...if that makes sense. Haha.

In California you will pay state, and local taxes on the FULL RETAIL price!
