Price without contract?

I'm sure Verizon has no say in full retail they don't make the phones and don't care about evo that's why they r doing upgrades for anyone with one this year when it is released July 15

I will be extremely surprised if Verizon doesn't reveal the price until the 15th like it said in that email....that plan would be death for the sales of the phone. If people don't know how much it will cost, how can they save up money and budget for it? Tsk tsk Verizon...think a little...

I'm sure Verizon has no say in full retail they don't make the phones and....

Why do you think that?

The manufacture company doesn't decide the price. They sell it to retail stores at bulk prices and probably also suggest an MSRP price. I don't know the full partnership of Verizon and Motorola so I can't say anything about their pricing but only to assume. Ultimately, it's the retailer/seller that decides on the price, not the manufacturer/supplier.

That reason makes no sense as to why they don't care about the Evo. What other phone would it compete against besides the iPhone? The iPhone shouldn't really count since it seems like every Android phone on the market is going against the iPhone in the eyes of regular users.

When I placed the order for the Incredible, the retail price was $529.99. So I am thinking the Droid X will be the same or more but certainly not less.

I went to Best Buy yesterday to ask about this price and there was a Verizon rep there that told me it would be $599. Not sure if that is accurate, but that is what they told me.

Hmm... could be correct, but I doubt that if all the google searches in the world don't turn up the information a VZW rep at Best Buy probably wouldn't have the official answer either.

Plus I think we're all hoping for something a bit cheaper ;)

I went to my local Best Buy and they had $599 as the retail price for the Incredible as well as some other high end smartphones. The reason I am waiting until July 15th to get it at VZW store or order it online to see it I can get it at a better price.

I don't buy that theory. The Incredible and Desire are just as similar as the HD2 and the Evo, yet both have a higher MSRP. The Evo is cheap because Sprint needs customers badly.

It would be awesome if $450 became the newish industry standard because as someone mentioned its both an awesome and awful time to be a tech happy person. Things are advancing so rapidly that its nearly a blinding pace. Techphiles would be happy because they could basically upgrade for $50-200 based on the value of their old phone every time something new they wanted released. The carriers keep people on their contracts happy, less people jumping ship for other phones, etc. I mean its silly when its virtually the same or cheaper to cancel your plan and resub (350 ETF+200 = 550 still < 599) than it is to buy a phone to activate on your current line.(Google Voice especially makes this very tempting, cares what carrier you have just use your GV number) That makes it too tempting to jump to the greener grass. I mean if your going to have to pay 600, why not jump to ATT for Super phone G? or Sprint for Y? At that point its a much more iffy proposition to keep customers. People accept it because thats the way it's been. Its nice to see that change at least in one instance.

The Inc is a newer board and chassis design. Please notice that the N1 and Desire both have the microsd stuck behind the battery and do not have the 8gb flash memory. From a sub-assembly and tooling standpoint, they would be treated as different products in regards to the cost curve.

Besides the HDMI bridge / etching and connectors & FFC, the EVO and HD2 are far more similar than the Inc is to the N1 and Desire.

added:

Droid X will be at least $600. Motorola will leverage price due to the current Incredible supply issues that have at least a month more misery before supply channels will be back to normal.

Still, $450 would be cool :)

We can pretend it will be less than $500, but that fantasy will only last for a few more weeks. I'm hoping a few months after release that it will drop in price. I may be wrong, but I think the Incredible started at $599 and dropped down to $529 after a few months.

I am having a hard time waiting a few weeks let a lone a few months! I will just have to pony up the $599 if that's what it ends up costing.

Incredible was $529 on release day not $599

Went into a corporate store yesterday and spoke with the manager for awhile. He said the full retail price was $599 but he added that it was "subject to change before release"

I have a feeling he didn't know for sure, but I'm just passing the word along.
