True, but the quotes from Sanji (today 2/16) seem to me anyways to point to prices in reference to US consumers, and fact that he talks about a wifi only in the same breath makes it seem like the wifi version is coming to US as well.

Yep you were right "look above".

The Wifi-only Xoom did pass through the FCC recently according to last week's Engadget story, so maybe, Couple with Iha's comments, we'll be seeing it sooner than we think.

As excited as I am about the $600 wifi version. We still have no idea when it will be available. And I hate rain on the parade but there is no way it's next week. We would have seen something before the announcement today. Other than the FCC documentation there isn't much to go on, I'm sure we will found out more when they announce the release date, which has to be today or tomorrow I would think.

I have some traveling to do for business in March, and if the WIFI only version is released after that, I'll still get the 3g 4g version. It will be nice to have if I ever need it.

There is no reason to NOT release the Wifi, unless they want to see how many bite on the 3G/LTE. Just because we did not hear about it, means nothing. It very well could be released the same time.

Well unless they announce a wifi-only release date in the extremely near future, I'm officially through with waiting and waiting, I'm just going to spring for the 799 version that releases next week (preorder tomorrow w/best buy). Because lets face it, by the time they announce/release the wifi only, which will probably be a few months away in the US, the next best thing will be announced, and at this rate if I keep waiting I'll never buy anything. Seriously time to s*it or get off the pot. My 799 is ready, lets announce this thing Best Buy.

I'm just as hopeful as anyone else that it will get announced soon, but IMO I just don't see it happening on the same date. I think VZW will have first crack at the Xoom to see what they can sell and wifi version will be released in a few months. I just think that if it was going to be on sale next week we would have seen screen shots of inventory screens, UPC/Item Numbers, things like that that we see when new products are on the horizon. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a WIFI only versions next week, and I would love to be proved wrong.

But like as was said before, im done waiting, if the WIFI versions isnt coming soon, as in the next few weeks, I'll gladly buy the 3g model, im tired of waiting lol.

If I knew for sure I could ad-hoc tether from my DX I would consider the WIFI only. But who knows when it will be rooted and able to do this?

I think I'm with you. I won't preorder tomorrow though but will wait until official release date in hopes of hearing a release date on the Wi-Fi version. If I hear nothing I may just suck it up and pay the $200 more for 3G even though I am not sure I need/want it later. I certainly don't now.

I'm willing to wait a little bit longer for the wi-fi but all these press releases have me getting feverish. I'm ready.

I agree. I think that they will announce the official release date of the Xoom today. They have to if pre-orders are starting tomorrow (as all indications say it is). As to if they will announce the WIFI date at the same time is anyone's guess.

But like you I am tired of waiting.

Although it doesn't make much business sense for Jha to "out" the existence of a cheaper, more appealing model on the eve of the 3G-Xoom's launch -- unless they were coming out close to one another, I do think there will be a month delay between the Verizon version and the WiFi only.

We will find out soon.

I'm really hoping they release a $600 WiFi model at the same time as the 3G, I will get that.

Also, adding 3G really costs an extra $200?

Yeah it doesn't make much sense, I never really thought of that. I think we will know sooner than later.

Patience Grasshopper, Patience:) For me there is no need to get the $800 Xoom when a WiFi only version is not far off. I can just tether it to my rooted EVO via Wireless Tether and have a GREAT combo going on. $200 more for a 3G Radio is ridiculous. Hopefully Moto does not hold onto the WiFi model for too long as there are other viable tablets coming out soon that will be WiFi only capable and they may cut the legs out from under Moto with their pricing plan. If LG or Apple comes out with a $500 WiFi only model that could hurt sales of the Xoom WiFi. They (Moto) are playing a dangerous game here.

since they are promising to upgrade the 3g to 4g that extra $200 could include the cost the upgrade to LTE. just a thought.

I don't understand why it does not make sense. The iPad I think was released in all its forms right away. 3G or no 3G. 16/32/64 gig. Lots of options to choose from from day 1. I don't see it as limiting your sales of model A. I see it more as taking advantage of all potential customers out there.

Why care about a customer who wants your product and is going to buy one of your models no matter what to the point of limiting your sales to thousands more. And for every customer you forced to buy the top model by releasing cheaper models later - you could probably entice 10 who though thought they would only buy the cheaper model but once you got them in the store you were able to upsell.

To me - it makes no sense to hold models back.

The WiFi iPad came out a month before the 3G version.

And it doesn't make sense, because consumers will always wait for the better option, if there is one. Yes, in the end, Motorola gets your money, but why cannibalize the sales of the higher end model, which they would make more money on, before it's even released?

It still shocks me that apparently no one has bothered to read the Verizon activation/cancellation policy, which clearly states you will be responsible for your $35 activation fee, UNLESS "you terminate service within three days of activation." Furthermore, you will only be responsible for any data that is actually used (i.e., prorated), not the entire $20, or whatever rate you chose at sign up.

So no, you won't have to dish out $900 plus dollars (or in my case, its just the $799, with no tax since there's no sales tax in my neighboring state where I'll be making my purchase ;)). Just buy the Xoom, then go home and immediately call to cancel the monthly data plan service, and the activation will be waived, and you'll only be charged for any data you used on a prorated bases. You do realize you're gloating about spending 200 more dollars just to get a
Xoom now instead of waiting for the wifi model right?
Also when people say "I don't think" like that, they mean they could be wrong and are not stating definitive fact. This has been your intro to English lesson for the day.
