It still shocks me that apparently no one has bothered to read the Verizon activation/cancellation policy, which clearly states you will be responsible for your $35 activation fee, UNLESS "you terminate service within three days of activation." So no, you won't have to dish out $900 plus dollars (or in my case, its just the $799, with no tax since there's no sales tax in my neighboring state where I'll be making my purchase

Just buy the Xoom, then go home and immediately call to cancel the monthly data plan service, and the activation will be waived, and you'll only be charged for any data you used on a prorated bases.
