Lets hope that it is just a ploy by Best Buy to make it look like we are getting a good deal.

Reg. Price: $1199.99
Sale Price: $799.99
YOU SAVE $400!!!

At an advertised price of $799, there was a 15% chance that I would have walked into my local Best Buy for a pre-order.

My chance of pre-order dropped to 0.0% today.

This soap opera is getting beyond absurd

It will not be sold for the 1200 dollar price. Its just a placeholder and will be corrected. That xoom page technically isnt supose to be live til the 17th. This happens with the macbooks each year too.

If it's over $600 why get it when iPad 2 is coming and iPad 1 has better apps.
Yes it doesn't have Flash, but trust me you don't miss it (if you're not a flash gamer).

I own a Evo and Epic and 1 iPad (I am not a fanBoy) just being honest. I'd buy a Windows 7 tablet before I buy a Android tablet.

I would rather not have a tablet at all, than have the iPad.

As for the $1,200, it's obviously not the real price. If it was, I wouldn't even buy it. I personally don't have a problem with the $800 price, because it's far better than the iPad ($729 for the comparable model) and it out-specs the TouchPad ($699 rumored price).

Everyone has their own opinion, so to each his own. My money is it wont sell well at $800 or $1200. If I had to guess it might sell somewhere around 20k-50k units. And a lot those people will return it with in 30 days. Mark the post.

Advertising a higher price placeholder is dumb when you are trying to drum up pre-order interest for a new product. Now, I wont even go to the store, make a couple small impulse purchases, etc.

I'm obviously not going to pay a down payment if I don't know what the final cost will be.

Hopefully they have this corrected well before the 17th (or 24th). Today would be ideal!

I am interested in the marketing strategy of Motorola knowing they spend time and money researching the demographics of the targeted consumer.. swimming up stream, price wise, seems counter intuitive.

You have to think they are not completely out of touch and have some business plan that is designed in the long run to be profitable. Certainly they have generated a cost free " buzz' in the media keeping the Xoom at the forefront of tablet discussions.

They may not be as out of touch as we think.

Maybe it is just a marketing strategy to make sure the blogs and media keep talking about the Xoom. At least that seems to work very well. Maybe what Motorola is trying to say is that they never confirmed the $800 price tag and $1200 is just another random number.

And in the end they will price it at $750 and everybody will say ... see, Motorola is not a bad company. And there will be long lines in front of the Best Buys and everybody is happy. (Except the Icrap fanbois.)

That's probably just wishful thinking. But who knows.

Thought I would add my disgruntled comments.

I am sure $1,200 is not correct. As soon as I saw the price today I immediately started looking at other options. The Samsung Tab II would be nice, however there is nothing yet planned by Samsung to release it to the U.S.

In a few months all other tablets should be out, including iPad 2. Perhaps it is best to sit back and see what comes out and then pick what you want.

I was hoping that the $799 price would come down a bit, and still do.

Honestly, after seeing $1,200 it made me start thinking about jumping onto the Apple band wagon and get me my iPhone 5 and iPad 2 this summer...I'd rather not.

I just wish Verizon/Motorola/Best Buy/ect would stop jerking us around and just come up with a final price.

I highly doubt that the Galaxy Tab II is going to be any cheaper than the Xoom, otherwise Samsung would have announced the price today, rather than just saying "competitive." Samsung obviously knows how much a product, set to launch next month, is going to be.

The Xoom is obviously not going to be $1,200.

I'm guessing your review will be up before March.

how can you even compare this to an ipad/ipad2(i mean iphone blown up) The Ipad is nothing compared to this and i assume the Ipad2 wont come close either

on the other hand..this 1200 pricing better just be a tactic

For reference:
Motorola Xoom up for pre-order at Best Buy this Thursday... for $1,199! -- Engadget#

And:
Motorola - XOOM Tablet / NVIDIA Tegra Processor / 10.1" Display / 1GB Memory / 32GB Hard Drive - Licorice - 990000745

I'll be shocked if anyone buy it at $1200. I was already rooting for it to fail at $800 so they would drop the price some.

Interestingly - the BestBuy page has been taken down and a search of their web site for xoom comes up empty. Lets hope that means they have rethought the whole thing and we will be down to a reasonable price.

Lol. I think ur are absolutely right! Its best buy playing the numbers game to make it look like their price is awesome. BB isn't fooling anyone.

Have you seen the back of BB discount coupons? In summary... it basically says coupon is valid for all electronic purchases except electronics that are sold at best buy. :p
