Help Printing from M8

Jamasara

Lurker
Can anyone advise how I can print direct to my home networked HP printer from my new M8. I can do this on my old HTC One X. (I don't know how it works) The only printing method I have found up to now for the M8 is via the cloud or using HP's ePrint service. I don't want to do it using either of those methods, why would I want to send a print request via a server half way round the globe to a printer in my back bedroom, not to mention the security implications.

Welcome to our forums. Unfortunately most of the apps, including ePrint support "local" printing the printer still requires an internet connection. What you can attempt to do is swithc to Wi-Fi, disconnect the internet at the router and see if the printer works fine with wireless printing without the network connection.

I imagine it will choose the shortest route to print, but that would be the only way to really test it. All the 3rd party apps that I have found don't do what you need.

Maybe someone else can chime in with some additional info or another solution.

Try PrintBot or LocalPrint (same developer) in the Play store. I use PrintBot Pro for my needs but it will really depend on your printer model.

Does print bot work as Google print . say I am at home and headed to the office to work I sent some documents to print . now will this began to print when I hit enter. Or does this print when I am in range of the WiFi where printer is located.

Thanks for the suggestions, no luck though. My printer remains completely invisible to both these apps.

There are some configurations that may need to be done with any apps of this type. Maybe I can help you out though. Let's start with what is the make and exact model number of your Printer? I am in the printer business so I can likely find a solution for you.

What kind of printer it should have a Linux section or something to do to work on androids . so what kind of printer

HP Envy 100 D140 series. Connected to my nwk using a reserved IP address. (Wireless)

You could always use HPs plugin to connect locally now that I think about it. Go to Settings>Printing>HP Print Service Plugin and then select Add Printer from the menu. Give your printer a name and then enter it's IP Address and let it go out and find your Printer to gather info. This will print locally. If this doesn't work you can try HP ePrint in the play store which will also print locally as well as from the cloud if you want. The App works with more legacy devices than the plugin as far as my knowledge.

If you want to use PrintBot you may need to purchase a license but can test before buying by doing the following. In PrintBot settings under Network you should be able to change Auto to RAW (JetDirect) or LPR or IPP.

Try RAW first and then just type in your IP Address. Press OK and then choose Printer and change the Manufacturer to HP and then look for your driver ( I have looked and it is there). Then choose default page size and try a test page. If it works go to the printing section of your M8’s settings and check off zenofx.com PrintBot to enable in menus. Ignore the warning it gives about passing through other servers.

Try LPR 2nd if raw doesn't work, then you would manually enter your printer info. For Hostname or IP Address section you would enter the IP Address of your printer. For queue name you may need to try a few different things here. I usually put a queue name of IP_192.168.1.28 (just an example, replace with your printer's IP address) or just the network name of your printer which you can get by browsing your network via a Windows PC or by going to the IP Address of your printer via a Web browser if your printer supports it. Then click OK and choose Manufacturer, Driver, Page size, etc and try a Test Print.

Try IPP lastly if none of the above works. Do everything the same way and test. With LPR and IPP you may need to mess around with the queue name to get it to work. The good news is you have HP so RAW(JetDirect) should just work as they wrote the book on that and JetDirect is HP technology.

Well the print service plugin works a treat. I had to load it as it was not available on my phone but after downloading it, it was easy to set up and now I can print as easily as I could on my old one x. Thanks for your help in sorting this. If I have any more issues with my phone I will certainly be back here to get some assistance.
