Help Privileges for Apps?

I am new to Android phones, and recently got the Stratosphere. I am quite surprised that when I install an App, it demands access to the world. Even the Flashlight wants to know what phone number I am calling, and what my location is.

Should I be concerned? Is this normal behavior for Droids? Are there choices?

Actually it is dependent on app to app .Should you be concerned ? maybe .Rather you should be alert .apps may requires certain permissions to function .Are ther choices ,Yes there may be .But sometimes the permissions are necessary.

Once we get CM7 ported over (if ever), you'll be able to deny individual privileges after an app is installed. Pretty nice feature.
