PRI or 'primary rate interface' it's a telco standard for how voice and data is handled between the user and the telco switch and/or the mobile cellular network. It also defines the number of available channels per phone trunk...

PRI is just as important as PRL because they both tell the handset which towers to use and how to use the data coming and going to them and also soft hand offs between towers and roaming (i.e. using verizon or clearwire towers with roaming agreements).

if you have a new prl but an old PRI (say if your rooted) then your phone could potentially mis handle calls and also cause more battery drain because you handset may be "listening" to a different tower then its actually communicating with. having the PRL and PRI ensures your handset is running efficiently in your area on the towers that it should be...

For me it fixed my SLOW 3G speeds.
I have been having a lot of problems with slow 3G speeds and stuff just not responding when they need data. I did the update last night and today i have noticed it already seems faster. I have done some Speed Tests using the app and definatley better on that as well.
 
I've also had issues with my 3G speed. I just checked it and I was getting around 600Kb/sec - much better than usual. I'll have to keep an eye on it to see if it stays consistent. At my home, I'm in a 4G hole, but I use WiFi there anyway. I'm a happy camper.
 
Is there a way to check my current PRL and PRI without doing all the steps to update? Id like to know if I even require an update first. Thanks :)

I know! I'm in the same boat as you. Ever since I did that froyo update i have been scarred! So far people are writing positive things about it. :)
 
I keep getting an error 1012 when I tried updating the PRL.... PRI is updated but I can't update PRL. No my evo is not rooted.....
 
I'm getting error 1012 as well. I AM rooted and it didn't update my PRI, PRL is stuck at 60662

I changed my MSID and MDN by going into the ##(enter your MSL code here)>edit>MDN and MSID

Change those back to YOUR phone number and it should update the PRL the next time you connect. Then go to menu>settings>system updates>Update Profile to get data back.
 
Under settings you can manually update the PRL. However, if you don't do the "hack" to update the PRI, when and how does the PRI ever update?
 
the PRI can be updated when you update the PRL if there is indeed a neccessary update. these dont get updated as often as PRL's so dont expect to see one as often...

I called Sprint and the rep was very helpful. Took 2 minutes and no questions asked. All I said when I called was, "I'd like to retrieve my MSL code so that I can update my PRI". She said, "okay, just give me a minute and I'll pull that right up for ya."
 
I hope mine gets better. I keep dropping calls when I'm in my house. My buddy lives about 1/4 mile up the street and gets full reception and 2 meg downloadspeeds.
 
How the flying money fudge are ya'll ABLE TO UPDATE?! My phone just locks up whenever I enter the PRL update thing, and it will LITERALLY (no exaggerations) sit there and do nothing but have that little spinning circle until I pull the battery out. I put it on the charger 3 days ago, and it was about 2pm. I hit the PRL update, and LEFT IT ON MY DESK PLUGGED IN until noon the next day. The exact same screen with the little ****ing spinning circle was there. THE ****?!!?!11?!!
 
Woke up one morning and PRI had updated itself. Guess the update is being pushed out by Sprint or HTC. I'll update to new PRL later.
 
I can't get my pri to update no matter what I try. I spent several hours trying, with several different ROMs, from several different locations, and it never updated the pri.

Ever thought of calling Sprint and seeing if they can help you? Or, I suppose you can just get upset and stay that way.

Obvious troll is obvious! I'm actually at the Sprint store now waiting for them to help me, no thanks to your advice. Sorry for asking for help on a community help site. Won't happen again.
