Help Prl update problem

[Samsung Galaxy S3]

I have a prepaid Samsung Galaxy S3. I've manually tried to update my prl but it won't update to the latest update and I can't use it without Wi-Fi. Please help. I've tried *228 and all other phone tips I've read about online but to no avail. Why isn't my phone roaming and the prl not updating to the latest??

Your PRL automatically updates. In fact, my understanding from Verizon is that doing the manual *228 update could brick your phone. The SIM card updates every night, I believe, to pull the latest PRL.

Back in the day, yes. It allowed your phone to "find" new towers and improve signal by utilizing them.
Nowadays, it's done automatically with your SIM.
