Root Problem accessing clockwork recovery from boot D3

r9ball

Newbie
I cannot access CWM recovery from Power +M, BP Tools, Vol Up when I go through a normal bootup. I always have to choose from the rom mgr or rom toolbox app if I want to go to recovery. That does no good in a boot loop since you can't get to the app.
I had a backup made and got boot loop at first Motorola logo M after installing Liberty (installed off internal storage).
So no way to get to recovery.
Had to use sbk to reset to factory through pc. I used the newer S/W so I hope that won't affect future plans.
I followed the steps on the forum for rooting, bootstrap, etc and everything but haven't tried a second time on Liberty.
My main issue is no access to CWM recovery without going through the app first every time. Is that just the way the D3 is for now?... Thanks for any help, hints

Well, keep in mind that you can still factory reset the device and still have Liberty installed. You can wipe the data (which is usually required) through the stock recovery, and still boot to the Liberty rom.
You can then install the app and get to recovery.

Try rooting, bootstrap the D3 again, but press "Reboot Recovery", and make sure it takes you to the CWM recovery. If not, boot up, bootstrap again, and install Liberty. Wipe data during the same session, after or before install (it usually doesn't matter), and you shouldn't bootloop.

But keep the above paragraph in mind, it won't hurt CWM if you wipe data from stock recovery.

Click this here to download the bootstrap APK. Take this and drop it on your phone somewhere. Go Settings>Applications>tick 3rd Party Apps or whatever to allow non-market APKs to be installed. Navigate to wherever it is on your phone's memory and select it to install it. Now open the app and hit Install Recovery. Now hit Reboot Recovery. This should reboot you into CWM Recovery. I don't like ROM Manager because it seems to cause more headaches for me than it helps.

Thanks,, should Liberty be installed from the ROM Toolbox app that I had to use to dload it to phone or from CWM recovery?

I flashed Liberty with SafeStrap. It's essentially BootStrap, but with the option for a second experimental system. So, moral of the story, use BootStrap.
