Help problem adding a 'googlemail' email account

Hello everyone,

I am having a problem adding my 'googlemail' account to the stock email widget on my Desire (running android 2.2 - software number 2.12.110.4).

I have added a pop3 mail account and that send / receives fine, but when I try to add my 'googlemail' account I get a message that states - " Warning. Cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account information. Your server is not responding".

I have managed to sync my canendar and contact and I can access & download apps form the andriod market.

Anyone got any ideas please?
