Problem after factory reset

I followed the instructions to do a factory reset on my phone and now I only have access to the dialer. If I try to go to the desktop, it's completely blank. It is as if no launcher is installed. Can anyone help?

flash back to stock, hope you have all your contacts backup to google or sd card.

Is that different than doing a factory reset? If so, how do you flash to stock?
