Root Problem after flashing partition table

With much help and reading I got my Desire S-off with Revolutionary, having restored it to basic rooted with HTC Sense using my first Nandroid backup, and tried to install a new partition table using Fastboot Commander. It seemed to work ok but now it will only boot into hboot or fastboot. Trying to start the phone I just get to the HTC screen (before the 'Quietly Brilliant') and there it stays.
I've wiped and tried re-installing the nandroid backup but to no effect. The only odd message I get when restoring the Nandroid is the very last line says "sd-ext.img not found. Skipping restore of /sd-ext/."

I've got GingerVillian file downloaded and had flashed that before I did the s-off but from what I read it appeared to be better to go back to stock rooted, do the s-off, partition and put in a bigger sd card before re-flashing GV. It doesn't appear to be totally bricked (yet) but I can't progress any further. It's 21.30 here in uk and I won't be able to do anything until about 16.00 tomorrow so if anyone can come up with some ideas in the meantime I'd be very grateful. Thanks :(

Which HBOOT did you flash? Maybe the /Data partition is too small and won't fit that ROM?
try flash dGB, that thing is tiny!

I'm sure Tyseyh is right. If you have changed hboot to a smaller one but still have the stock ROM that's what will happen. Also I reckon that the reason for the sd-ext message is that the stock ROM doesn't use the ext partition, so a nandroid of that wouldn't have anything in sd-ext.

So you could just restore/flash a smaller ROM - unless you used the Oxygen table you could restore GV. But if you prefer to partition first, I can see 2 options:

1) flash back the larger hboot, restore your stock nandroid, partition new card, copy data onto it, flash the smaller hboot, restore GV.

2) boot into recovery. Mount new sd card over usb and partition (using GParted). Copy fat32 contents onto new card after partitioning, then unmount and restore your GV nandroid.

Either way, you'll be fine. The phone software is spectacularly messed up at the moment, but it's perfectly fixable ;)

Thanks guys. Duh! Logic failure.
Got the stock partition table flashed and it switched on fine. Haven't had chance to progress much further today. Did put the new 32Gb card in and tried to partition it but Gparted just showed a 1gb partition on /sda. Can't remember if I had to do anything to the original card when I put that in but do I need to load anything onto the card before partitioning? The phone shows 29.something Gb space so it appears to be ok
Thanks again

Ok, I've done the Nandroid backup and copied files from old Sd card, partitioned new card, copied files back to it and nandroid restored. Copied GingerVillian zip to the sdcard (not into any folders), and done the wipes but when I go into recovery and 'install zip from sdcard' it doesn't find it, just 'choose zip from sdcard' and 'apply sdcard:update.zip' but GV isn't in the list of files if I select the choose option. It worked the first time before I had the partition issues so I'm not sure what I've doen wrong. Any suggestions? Thanks

You have to select "choose zip" then it will let you choose the zip. It will list folders first THEN files (eg zips) and also it will list folders starting capital letters first, then lower case.

I always have a folder called "AFlash" where I put my zips. leaving it root of \sdcard is a bit much to scroll through

Thanks. I found it. Hadn't looked properly but though it had automatically found it first time so thought something must be wrong. Using gv as it seemed to be a good first new rom but might try yours as everyone seems to like it.
