Root Problem after root, need expert opinion

So before rooting My Virgin Mobile Samsung Intercept i was using a Rumor touch data cable to charge it at school. When i returned to school the next day, after rooting, the cable shows the battery charging, but even after 3 class periods of continuous charge.... the battery maintins the initial level. Although when i use the usb cable from the AC charger on the PC, it does charge. Is the cord to blame? or did rooting cause my phone to need a higher level of charge input?

any suggestions are welcomed.

I would assume its the cable. Volts are volts - it either charges or it doesn't.
Things like this happen to me all the time. Cables fail just after Ive performed some kind of "upgrade" and lend confusion to the scenario.
