Root problem after rooting. please help!

Hi.

I used advanced hack kit to root my desire hd. It first downgraded the rom then i rooted the phone. I then installed a custom rom and it was working great.
I read that there would be an app showing which would show that it has been rooted (cant remember the app name) so i rooted it again and now i cant get a new rom on my phone.

I am getting the error E:Cant open /cache/recovery command when i am in andriod system recovery.

any help would be great as i have been trying for hours.

Thank you

You wouldn't have been able to put a custom ROM on your phone if you weren't rooted.

Are you able to get in to recovery? I mean are you able to get in to ClockWorkMod (where you installed the custom ROM from)?

i am not sure. i can get into the page that has the three driods at the bottom. i then can get into andriod system recovery.

When you put the custom ROM on your phone, you would most likely had to do it by using ClockWorkMod recovery - this has options to backup & restore, perform wipes, install from zip, etc. From memory, the text is in orange - you use the volume keys to navigate and the power button to select.

I can hold vol - and power on and i get the AAHK menu with these options

fastboot
recovery
factory reset
simlock
image crc

i get an image of a mobile with a red triangle on it

what you are seeing is the stock recovery, and the error youre seeing is common to see when you boot to it.

all you need to do is install recovery, and then you can flash a rom,or restore a backup.

when you go to hboot(vol down+power) you do see s-off,right?

if so,download this file:
cwm-5.0.2.7-ace.zip

rename it to PD98IMG

im a little confused if you have a working phone or not. if not,you may need a sd card reader for your PC,as you need to transfer PD98IMG to your sd card. while you are connected to the PC,right click on the drive that is your sd card, then click properties. double check that your sd is formatted FAT32( not FAT,or anything else). if it is not, youll need to back it up,reformat it,then trasfer everything of value back(dont forget PD98IMG)

once you have transfered PD98IMG to your FAT32 sd,you can boot the phone back to hboot via vol down+power. it should find the file, and ask you if you want to update. allow the update. afterward, push power to reboot. if the phone doesnt boot, you can pull the battery after a couple minutes.

now youll need to put the sd back into the card reader if the phone is not booting, and remove PD98IMG. at this time you can go ahead and put wharever rom you wish to flash onto the sd.

now you should be able to boot back to hboot,THEN select recovery. this time it should take you to clockwork recovery.

if prior backups were made with clockwork, you can restore them. if not, youll need to falsh a new rom.

make sure you do a full wipe:
-data/factory reset
-cache
-dalvik cache

then flash or restore

you should now be back to a working phone :)

also, remeber this experience,as you have made things hard on yourself by not researching and understading what you were doing. feel free to post up before you get to a moment of panic with a non working phone,we are here to help! and prevention is generally easier than cure :D
