Help Problem caching Google maps

Sidoko

Newbie
I've several times successfully cached my local Google map area (London), but when I return to the maps function the cache has been cleared.

Anything to do with the fact that I live in London? Or any other ideas, please?

Actually, I may have solved the issue. The W loses its cached maps if you reboot it. Any way round this? Surely it should be possible to save them.

It's very frustrating and I haven't found a proper solution.

Instead I downloaded a free app called Navfree which is basically a satnav app (that has a walking mode), and allows you to download the map for an entire area free over wifi. So I've downloaded the map for my country and use it whereever I go for driving or walking. The app isn't perfect yet but it's a decent enough workaround for me. Depends whether it suits your particular use or not.

Thanks for the tip about Navfree. Unfortunately the map for the UK and Ireland is 364Mb -- more memory than I have spare. Perhaps I could have removed some apps to make room, and then copied the Navfree file to the SD, but the Google glitch isn't THAT bad!

Thanks again for your help.
