Root Problem flashing rom

Wait.

Apply update zip or install zip from sd card?

Well, both. I first tried to install the zip but when it gave me the message to apply the update from SD card, I tried that.

Any suggestions on CDMA roms? I really only want app2sd and tethering if possible. My carrier has yet to put out Froyo and I'm sick of waiting. Haha

Ok, if you don't have a SIM you should count it a lucky escape that the flash failed. It's a real booby trap that both phones are called Desire, because they need different software.
There are some CDMA ROMs - I can't link the xda thread from here - but I'd suggest getting your backups done and making sure any other preparation is done before trying again. Did you back up your data and apps before wiping, or are you relying on Google to restore contacts etc?

Edit: sorry, typing on phone so slow, reply redundant by time sent

Not familiar with CDMA roms and make sure you do this when you find one:

Plug the phone in via USB cable and mount the sd card so we can transfer files to it.

Copy the ROM .zip file and save it to the root of the sd card (NOT in any folders just on the sd card itself). Once it is done copying, unplug the phone from the usb cable.

Turn off the phone, then turn it back on by holding down Volume Down and Power until the white bootloader screen comes up

Now using the volume buttons select Recovery and wait for the phone to boot into recovery mode.

Scroll to Wipe Data, select wipe data/factory reset and then select wipe dalvik cache.

Now scroll to install .zip from sd card and select the ROM .zip file we saved to the sdcard and wait for it to finish flashing. Once it is done, hit reboot and you are all set! Enjoy! If you want to flash a different ROM, simply redo this procedure and choose a different ROM.

I exported my contacts to my SD, and I didn't have that many apps on my phone anymore since I was running out of onboard memory (I really need froyo.) so I'm more or less back where I started. No real loss.

That's good.

All I know about CDMA ROMs is that there is a section on them in this post (includes links to the ROMs).

Lecter's and SUroot's signatures have links which are useful if you are preparing for the "root version" of apps2sd - if you don't know the difference between that and what comes with Froyo anyway, the link in SUroot's sig will explain. But that's why people here were talking about partitioning, because there are 2 types of a2sd available, one of which (the one most people here are using) requires an extra partition on the SD card, and some ROMs require that to be done before flashing.
