Root Problem installing HTC IME Mod with Root Explorer

saltire

Android Expert
Not sure what I'm doing wrong but suspect it's something to do with Root Explorer, and install location or permissions. Copied ime and clicker apks to sd card, open Root Ex, click on apk select install. Activate ime mod (this is Jonasl mod from xda [MOD] HTC_IME (8th June) v27: Small fix - xda-developers) in lang & keyboard, reboot just for good measure.

Long press text entry box, select HTC IME Mod but then keep getting a FC.

First time installing via Root Ex so what am i doing wrong?

Just install them like normal apps into data/app usijng a file manager/package installer.

You havent already got a htc keyboard have you?

Dan - I thought that's what i was doing using Root Explorer, do i need to copy files from sd card into data/app first?

No, just standard Android kb

If you dont ever flash updates to your rom you can put them in system/app but I keep mine in data/app as if i update without a wipe, the keyboard is still there.

Doesnt work for black market for me. Nor blacked out gmail. Although i just use market gmail now which is fine.

Browser will never work from data/app or apps that need to be compiled on the system

Ok, I have no doubt i am missing something blindingly obvious but i just can't get this to work :o. Have tried:

copy to data/app, set permissions, install - still FCs

straight install from sd card (installs to data/app) - still FCs

is there something that would prevent it from running in data/app if i still have a sd-ext and Redux picks that up, phone should still think that's internal though right?

Do i:
A - try copy to system/app, set permissions, install?
B - Or do straight install from sd, then move from data/app to system/app?
C - call it a day, go home and have a beer?
D - call it a day, go home and have a beer?

ext is fine. Mine worked fine when I had ext.

Do both apps successfully install?

If so, try wiping the data for it in manage applications.

After all that turns out a bad download, or something in the file my setup doesn't like. Tried the blue/white mod from the toolbox and installed fine.

As ever, thanks for the help Dan.
