Root Problem making folder r/o

I am trying to put cwm recovery on my infuse 4g. I have it rooted and have the 3e recovery in the proper folder but root explorer does not allow me to change system or system/bin folders to r/o, they are locked at r/w, is this normal? And if not how do I fix it. I am getting errors during reinstalling packages if anyone is familiar with how to put cwm on infuse 4g. I have followed all directions perfectly and still get the e: errors, I am thinking it is because the system/bin folders are locked at r/w and not set as r/o to be able to access the update.zip file

That may just work, the easiest way may just be flashing to stock through odin, but flashing the modded 3e and cwm one, then its preset there for you! Here it is. [ODIN][UCKD5] Odin - Stock (100% or Root+3e) - (Update 06/05/11) - xda-developers o wait nvm. Its not really your problem... hmm u have an xda account? Probably best asking it there were there are many in your situation. Just post in the right section plz.

So I can use odin to get back to stock if I dont want root? Also can I use Odin without the original recovery file, I only have the modded one, when I tried to make the old one a .bak file it just overwrote it with the new, modded file.

Yupperz.

so i was retracing my steps. i have noticed that the recovery in system/bin never replaced. even though it showed that it copied the modded one, wheb closing root explorer and reopwning it has the default recovery back in the normal folder, cant even successfully rebame the oriinal recovery. it allows me to rename but wheb going out of root exploereand back in its the original recovery.

So I went through odin and the phone rebooted. I see I stay rooted after using odin, I assumed it would unroot me. However I still can not rename my original recovery or reboot and install packages, still same error. So lost.

So I reflashed, again, with odin except I used the one with modded 3e recovery. I finally got it to install packages and load to cwm and created a recovery, rebooted my phone and installed rom manager, flashed, and rebooted again into cwm, then rebooted to phone and this is where I sit relaxed and calm that my phone has modded recovery. Now I need to know what and how to put a rom on my phone. My phone is 2.2.1 and I see many roms that say 2.3 etc, can I use those roms? Do they update to 2.3 or just used for phones already running 2.3? Almost every rom on xda says 2.3 in the title except for three and the three are confusing on how to put them on the phone.

Lol good job, sorry did not respond ive been busy with my phone :) . Anyway, there are usually specific instructions on how to install a rom. Before you do anything though MAKE A BACKUP! . To do this, install titanium backup, and just backup. After you install a rom, to get the apps back restore apps only or you will have problems. To backup using cwm (the bomb lol) go into cwm by turning off the phone, then holding all three buttons a little after the samsung screen appears. It will boot into it. Now, locate backup or restore in it, i would tell you but CM7 one is a little different. By the way, you scroll by volume controls and select by power button. Since you have got this done, I recommend starting with a Sammy based rom (CM7 and miui have multiple steps to get back, unless you unbrick). Maybe go with Infused (most popular, will not get an update anytime soon). There is a whole rom list here [REF] Infuse 4G Super Thread - ONE STOP SHOP FOR EVERYTHING - xda-developers . Pick them wisely, look around the roms, pick which one you like. 2.3 does work. I suggest making an account on XDA, and advise posting in the right spot, like going into q and a and asking it, or going into the dev one and ask it there. Report any problems, good luck. Maybe, darky rom for you idk. It is all up to you, just do not install one of the leaks unless it has a custom kernel, they are usually a pain.

So I currently put refuse 1.7 on my phone. I was looking at some other ones but they have so many steps that I think don't apply to me, such as 3e recovery steps and cwm steps. I did a backup immediately through cwm (red screen) after installing refuse rom. Some roms say stuff about voodoo. My phone must have installed voodoo with the rom because I have a voodoo folder. What should I look out for with the roms? I just want to download a rom, and wipe data/cache, then install the rom, reboot and be all set. I dont want to have to flash another file other than the rom.

Since your on gingerbread, you can just do those steps now. Maybe because your not far in, try flashing the caty rom. I'm goin straight to that when I'm done with cm7. Caty I think is the best out there right now, but its beta. Look out for problems. Cm7 and miui (poor galnet ahhh) have to have you flash gapps, because it does not come with google apps stock. You were prob looking at infused, it has pretty much too much info lol. Have fun, roms can turn out to be really good.

Oh wait your not on gingerbread, I recommend you upgrade to it, it is 2.3.x. it is quite a bit better then froyo, in many aspects including performance. Like I said, maybe caty. Ports are also very good, up to you.

Am I able to put a rom on my phone that says 2.3? Since I am coming from 2.2 will it just update to 2.3 or do I need to manually update to 2.3 prior to installing the rom?

? Gingerbread comes in the rom, its android version. Just install like caty rom, and you will have it. Remember if you screw up and it wont boot past the samsung screen after a while, you can restore through cwm so do not panic.
