Help Problem seeing contactcs in texts due to "+"

[tdod]

My phone is an HTC inspire 4g. I know why this problem happens, but not how to fix it:

When I recieve a text, there is a "+" before the area code. My contacts aren't saved with a a plus....
How can I get my phone to ignore the "+"?
What is the "+"?
If need be and I changed my contacts to include the "+", would I still be able to even call them?

Are you using the stock text app?

If you place the + before the number in your contacts I thought people said that fixed it showing the name versus number issue.

And yes if you put the + before the number in your contacts you can still call them

I use handcent so i don't see the number in my texts.

I had the same problem and did the + trick, but didn't worked. I downloaded Go SMS and problem solved. Check this thread:
