Help Problem transferring contacts from Captivate to S4

Hello all, I have a Samsung Captivate (no longer activated) and a newly activated Galaxy S4.

I want to move my contacts but cannot get them transferred over. The SIM cards appear to be different sizes in the two phones, the "Samsung Smart Switch" doesn't help, and I cannot get the contacts to sync to Gmail.

From my research I have found that "Phone" contacts will not sync to gmail, and all my contacts are 'Phone' contacts, not Google contacts but I haven't been able to switch the contacts to 'Google contacts' nor put them in a Google system group.

Any help is greatly appreciated on how to accomplish this. Thanks

If your contacts are on Google contacts, transfer of your contacts should happen seamlessly when you activate your Google account on your S4.

Smitty, as I mentioned in my post, my contacts are not "Google contacts" , they are only Phone contacts, so there has been nothing 'seamless' about this task.
