Problem updating 1.5 firmware on HTC Hero

I have started using my brothers HTC hero just last week and it has firmware version 1.5 i am trying to update this, an update appears but when i update it, it only updates half way then a white triangle appears does anyone know how i can update this to 2.1, i am on orange Uk ?
 
Is there a custom rom on it? Did your brother install any other user interface? I get that on my hero if I click the update button. on mine, it's because I have a customised rom and the ota update won't work. If that is the case for your phone you would need a newer rom.

If it's still on a 1.5 firmware build then it's definitely not up-to-date. Can you go to Menu/Settings/About phone and tell us what "build number" is displayed, please?
 
That's the most-recent 1.5 firmware from T-Mobile, which should be able to update to 2.1 Over-The-Air. Are you connected via wifi when attempting to update?
 
as far as i know i have been connected to wifi whilst updating, i havent tried updating again as the update will only appear i put my date forward
