Help Problem updating from Kies

I am having trouble updating my S2 from Kies.
Whenever i connect it tells me that a firmware update is available but when i try to download it the DL sometimes fails and sometimes works. It then tries to install but then says it cannot do so and to reboot the phone. I do that and then the phone will not reconnect.

Does anyone have this problem and if so have you found a work around?

Kies is very flakey at the best of times and if you have a look round in this forum its littered with people having the same kind of problems. I think Kies has problems with Windows 7, not sure what OS you are on you never mentioned but one thing you can try if you are on Win 7 is to right click on Kies and run it in Administrator Mode, if that fails and you know someone whos running XP take it round there as it seems to like XP more than the newer OS's. Perseverance is obviously the key. Uninstalled an reinstalled Kies (windows XP) and at the 4th time of asking it was successful although i ended up bypassing the backup stage.
