Help Problem Updating to KitKat

Hey there!

Today I found out that my Nexus 4 could update to the latest version of Android. Upon updating my phone, it did the usual thing of rebooting the device and whatnot. However this is where the problem begins, my phone is refusing to start up, and instead remains stuck on the little animated logo of the 4 coloured circles. I am able to reboot into Recovery, and I know that the only way to resolve this problem is to perform a factory reset on my phone. I would first like to transfer all my files from my phone, and onto the PC. Would there be a way to do this through Recovery?

If anyone knows of a way to get past this, I would be greatful.

The First Rule of updates is Patience. There's a lot of major file system stuff going on behind that pretty animation. An update can easily take 15-30 minutes depending on how many apps you have installed.

I'd try to let it boot again, and just wait. If it still doesn't behave, then it may be just as easy to flash the factory image. You can find some decent instructions on doing that over at Android 4.4 KitKat Factory Images And Binaries Are Up For Nexus 4, All Variants Of Nexus 7 (2012 And 2013), And Nexus 10 [Flashing Instructions].

What Codesplice said.

ALSO, do not unplug it during this. It can take a long time, and the phone is at work during that time. If the battery dies...bad things can happen.
