Help Problem when texting (ie. deleting button)

jw513

Lurker
Whenever I'm texting and I need to delete, sometimes when I press the delete button, it will take me to a screen called 'delete by selection' (or something similar to that). In order to get back to my text, I have to press the back button around 3 times.

This happens quite often and is quite annoying. Anyone experience this? Why does it do it and how I can change it?

Thanks

i want to know the solution to this problem as well. happens to me a lot especially while texting in landscape mode.

What App are you using to Text with? As this is not a problem I encounter at all. In fact I'm not sure what you're being taken to on your phone with that description.

I'm just using the standard texting on the phone.

Yeah, this only happens when texting in landscape mode.

I certainly don't experience this. But I do use ChompSMS and I've also install the GingerBread Keyboard Version 1.0.15.2

When I'm typing in landscape mode the delete key just deletes.

I've also tried the standard messaging app with the standard keyboard in landscape mode and I certainly can't re-create the problem you describe. So I'm afraid I'm not able to assist.

I actually just registered on the forums to ask this question! I have the same problem and even when hitting the back button it will just bring me back to the delete selection page over and over. I have to hit the home button and let it save my message as a draft then continue typing.

Sometimes pressing back will bring me back to the typing screen but it wont activate the keyboard just the selection pointer.

I just got a reply back from HTC Support:
From the Home screen tap Menu> Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> All> Messages> tap this and tap "Clear Data". Do the same for the Dialer Storage. This is the storage app for text messages. If it exceeds 60-75 Mb of data, then it is recommended to clear out your old messages. Please note: This will erase all messages from the device. If you prefer to save messages for future access, you may want to consider a backup app from the market such as SMS Backup and Restore or Handy Backup. Remember that HTC does not endorse or support the use of third party apps. The installation and use of these apps is done at your own discretion.

I couldnt get the dialer storage one to let me clear it, but when I cleared the Messages data it seems to be working just fine now!

Hope this helps!

EDIT - Spoke too soon, it's still having the problem just not as often...

I just downloaded the ChompSMS app that the above poster recommended, and the problem is solved.

The only other issue is that when using this app, you can't send the message in landscape mode (ie send button does not appear), you would have to bring the phone back to portrait in order to send it.
