Help Problem with battery drain recently

Hi,

I hope someone can help. In the last week I have experianced much more battery drain than usual but with the same phone usage.

I've installed a few apps (ssLauncher, Go Launcher Ex and a few games) so I don't know if this has something to do with it.

I am using Badass Battery Monitor to work out what has been draining the battery and it's telling me that it's Kernel. When I click on Kernel it gives me a massive list of 'included processes' (e.g. suspend, led/0, loop21, vold, loop5 etc.) which mean nothing to me.

I am pretty sure that I've never seen Kernel in the battery drain list before so if it was always in the list it was obviously such a small battery drain % that I never noticed it.

Any suggestions for why kernel is all of a sudden causing such high battery drain? (I have soft reset the phone a few times and this doesn't stop the problem and un-installing apps to find the culprit will be my next job if no-one knows the answer)

Thanks,
Sam

(Using stock Orange 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0)

It's hard to tell. Usually the most likely candidate is a task killer, so if you're running one of those or anything that does a similar type of job, uninstall that to begin with. Next I would try uninstalling the launchers as they can eat a lot of battery.

Battery monitors won't always be able to tell you which app is causing a problem, instead they might lead you to the kernel (the core processes that make up Android) which all apps call on in order to work. So it's unlikely to be the kernel that's the problem, but an app that's calling on one or more of the kernel's processes too often.

Notebook,

Thanks for the reply. I started experimenting with the launchers as after upgrading to 2.3.5 I got the white loading screen a lot.

I tried ssLauncher which is very nice but doesn't seem to hold itself in memory so that also gave me a black screen every now and then while it was 'loading' again. Go Launcher EX has worked consistently since I installed it and it's much better than the standard Sense homescreens. I hope Go isn't the cause of the battery drain!

I'll start by uninstalling ssLauncher and see if that helps.

Thanks
