Help problem with battery since rooting

Hi
I had my phone rooted and upgraded to ICS using odin and clockworkmod. Since then, I noticed that a few times the power seemed to shut off, and the only way to restart the phone was to take out the battery and put it back in. A few days ago, the battery discharged really quickly, and refuses to recharge! I bought a new battery, but the same thing happened- battery quickly discharging and not being able to recharge from the phone. My daughter has the same phone, so she could recharge the battery, or I could get a wall charger that might do the job. But do you think that this was a result of rooting and using ICS or do you think it's more serious and the motherboard is damaged? It's never got wet, never been dropped and is unlocked. The apps I have is:
juice defender,
sorry sms,
drawsomething
Lookout
Kies
and a few games..:)
Thanks for any help
Graham

could this be linked to the battery not charging? If I can get to a wall charger, I'll restore the phone as directed on that post you pointed out. I can't help but wonder why this has affected the battery life? I did notice that it had been running hot, so maybe an app was running in the background..

You could also try cleaning, very carefully, your USB port with a soft toothbrush as this has been shown to clear rubbish from the port which can cause charging problems or even shorting.

I've reverted back to the original gingerbread - the one that came with the phone, and I had the battery charged by another Samsung S2, but now i have a new problem- maybe connected with the old, i installed battery monitor widget, and it's showing a high temperature, and temporary stops the charging cycle. Any ideas?
Cheers for any input!

Juice defender has a tendency to do weird things on my SGS2 - to the point the phone becomes hot, so I uninstalled that... you might want to try uninstalling JD to see if your heat problem is solved.

You might want to back up your data and do a factory reset of the phone... some apps could be messing around with the Android OS during the downgrade and is causing the processor to work overtime which is causing the heat... but this is a last resort situation.

If you're familiar with setting phone processor frequencies like SetCPU, it would be a good idea to use that to lower down processor frequencies to further cool down the phone from overheating.

As you can see, I took the back off the phone to show where the heat is coming from- does anybody know what this area is? - it's the silver rectangle on the motherboard to the right of the exclamation mark.. This is where its getting hot. Like i mentioned in my first post, the phone hasn't been dropped, dunked in water- the only thing i did to it was to root the phone to ICS...
This is proving to be a bit of a puzzle!
Cheers
Graham
