Help problem with changing alert tones

i cant get my ascend to go to custom ring tones and alert tones is this true across the board or am i just screwing something up i've tried using some apps and nothing happens just my default tones any suggestions?

I had the same issue.
Now I just use and get my ringtones with Zedge
Its free from the market and it works great.

use ring droid

any music clips you have can be used. select them from the music folder.

i use ringdroid (as mentioned above) to cut bits out of songs for ring tones. it just makes a .mp3 of the selected sound snippet and lets you choose to set it immediately.

free too.

Have you tried tone picker? Don't know if this is a good one or not but, It worked great on my phone. I just ended up with Handcent, Which had it's own picking options. So thus, I did not need it! XD
