Problem with flashing rom

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and I'm really looking for help, after searching for more than 2 hours I haven't found a solution to my problem.

Recently I received a Samsung Galaxy S2 i9300G (international chinese model) from my dad (I live in Canada). I started the phone up and it was under a chinese region or something, the csc code was chn or something I'm not too clear on what all this means. Anyway, i wanted to update the firmware to 4.1.2 jellybean by using Odin, however it didn't work. It said pass where it was supposed to and everything should have worked however when it rebooted it went straight to the system recovery screen. When i cleared the cache partition and factory reset the phone and clicked reboot again it just ended up at the same screen. I'm relaly at a loss for what to do so any help would be very greatly appreciated. I'm sure someone else has encountered this problem and I am trying to resolve it now by flashing the stock firmware that I found from SamMobile in an attempt to at least be able to use the phone. It's in the process of flashing rightnow.

Hi there, patrickstarpants! Welcome to Android Forums. :)

Let's see if members who have the same device can help you out; moving this to the Samsung Galaxy S2 (International) board.

If it was bought from China, it's not going to be very "international" I'm afraid. We have our own versions of Samsung phones here, and there could very well be hardware differences which may make it incompatible with non-Chinese ROMs. Another possibility given that it came from the PRC, are you certain it's a real Samsung and not a clone or counterfeit? Easiest way to tell, is look in Settings > About Device > Kernel version...if you see "CST" rather than "KST", then almost certain is a knock-off. Odin won't work with fakes.

Thanks for the reply! I finally got the phone to work using the stock version 4.1.2 android jellybean from china, i followed a tut and found the compatible files. It is not a counterfeit, it's kst I just checked. The problem I'm having now is there are no google apps such as play store installed in the phone and I'd like to know if there's a way to get them installed. I can't get any english apps from samsung apps because it directs me to the play store which isn't installed on my phone. Thanks in advance.

There are no Google apps installed because the intended market is/was China. Installing a firmware intended for another locale won't help as the G variant uses a different SOC and GPU to its siblings. You may be able to sideload an appropriate GApps package from the Cyanogen web site, but I can't guarantee it will work.
