Help Problem with Gmail Contacts Sync

Gmail contacts on my EVO will not sync with my computer although messages and calendar sync without problem. Get message "Sync is currently experiencing problems. it will be back shortly." The last Contact sync was in December, but Gmail and Calendar were today! Any ideas about the problem and the fix?? I have tried manual "sync" - he help.
 
Nothing in Gmail syncs with a computer. Your phone syncs with Gmail on Google's servers.

Are you using something on your computer for email other than a browser? If so, are you expecting your contacts in an application that Gmail can't communicate with, to be synced with your phone?
 
I use Gmail. "Contacts" is on the list to be synced as is 'Gmail' and 'Calendar', but only the latter two actually syn! Strange.
