Help Problem with Handcent, typed text not coming up.

This problem is really annoying. Sometimes when I open handcent and try to start typing, the text doesn't come up. The phone recognizes that I'm pressing the buttons but the text input box remains blank. Closing it and reopening doesn't make any difference, to fix it I have to bash random buttons repeatedly and eventually the letters start entering in the the box. Sometimes pressing a few random buttons solves it, sometimes I have to hit buttons for more than 10 seconds. I've searched but can't find anyone describing a similar issue. Anyone know what it could be?

This just started happening to me on my new EVO 4G LTE. The random keypresses don't even work for me. Not sure if it's ICS or the app or the phone or what. Going to give GOSMS a try, I guess.

Or wondering if it might be swiftkey 3...but not happening in any other apps so I don't think that's it...
