Hi

Anyone using a class 10 Memento 32gb Micro Sd Card.

I am having problems with this - it tends to get damaged and i lose all the data.

it has already happened twice to me

Anyone having similar problem with such a card - or not having such problem with such a card?

Ken

Its a well known fact that any sort of memory card (USB, SD,etc) is a prime target for counterfeiters. Are you sure your card is a quality card ??/ ;)

If you bought it on eBay there is a 95% chance you have been ripped off.

I love eBay but almost all the memory cards sold there are fakes that report a much larger capacity than they really have. They then silently dump data over the real limit, often very small such as 1GB.

Yeah I bought one for $49 from ebay and it's giving me loads of jip. I can copy data to it through wireless and it seems to stay ok but as soon as I connect it direct the files just sort of disappear as soon as the media scan completes. I did notice that the Lost+Found folder gets full of corrupt data. It might be the speed the data is being written, dunno.I think I'll have to contact the seller and hope to return.

I did run a few performance tests on the card though and read spead is over 15MB/sec

Hi

I have since then bought a sandisk 32gb class 4 - and been using it for 2 weeks now and works flawlessly.

I did run a test on the memento card using H2Testw - and it passed the test quite well.

Yet it seems that it is not good for frequent read and write - i am not sure about this but somewhere on the internet i read that class 10 cards are not that good for frequent read and write like usage in smartphones. The guy said that such cards need to load a file or something before you write or read on them. In fact he stated that best is to use a class 4 or class 6 for smartphone.

Not sure if this makes sense or not. But i am getting far better performance in my samsung with the sandisk class 4 than the class 10 memento.

The class refers to the minimum speed. Some reputable makes will perform better than the class they claim and SanDisk is often one of those.

It would never be true that a faster card is worse than a slower one but in any event, it looks like the card you bought on eBay was a fake and therefore you should draw no conclusions about it at all.

Stick to Sandisk or Kingston, and try not to be tempted by the bargain bucket ebay prices. Get one from a reputable dealer. If you get one off ebay, make sure the supplier states in the advert that its GENUINE, so if there are any problems, you can always open up a resolution case.

Fake cards will report for example 16Gb on the drive properties, but can only write perhaps 2Gb and are usually extremely slow. There is a freeware utility to check your card called h2testw which basically writes a file to the entire card to check its validity. Make sure you put it in a USB2.0 compatible port tho, as putting your card in a USB1 port can cause this utility to erroneously report a card as being problematic.

Hi ken481
Can you confirm the brand of the card you had a problem with please?
In your subject line you call it Memorette, but in the message body you say Memento.

I'm looking at a really good deal on a Memorette, but I think it's probably a bad deal really, if it's anything like yours.
Thanks.

Hi

I think they are the same thing - so i wouldn'e risk if i was you - yet i must say that since then i have been using it as an extended storage in my windows 7 laptop and never had a problem with it - so i guess the issue is with is using it in the phone
