Problem with my Hero?

I've been having a problem for the last few hours where my Hero refuses to download anything without a wi-fi connection. I've been messing with it and it seems like my mobile network isn't connecting correctly. I had to power down the phone earlier because it froze to black screen and I couldn't escape out of it and ever since then its been problematic. My Mobile network icon says "standby for connecting to mobile network" I'm not sure if thats bad or good, never actually looked at it. Any help or am I gonna want to do a factory reset?

Before you hard reset, call sprint customer care.

If they cannot fix it, you can get them to instruct you to hard reset your phone. However you will lose any information currently on the phone by doing so.
