Root Problem with nandoid backup

I've got an HTC Desire that I rooted yesterday from Froyo to LeeDroid 2.4.
I followed the great thread by SUroot, made my goldcard, partitioned my sd card for apps2sd, used the unrevoked method, etc...

Had problems the first go around because it said my leedroid zip was bad, but that's okay, I found another download and did it again and things went fine. Hardest part was waiting and waiting to see if the first boot would come up.

So here's my problem. I tried to go into recovery to do a nandroid backup. The process seemed to work and said things were fine. I tried to reboot the phone but it would just get stuck on the white HTC screen on the reboot. I waited for at least 20 minutes and nothing happened. I pulled the battery and did another clean wipe and new install of leedroid. Leedroid worked fine, went to try and do a backup and the same thing happened again.

So it seems like I can't do a backup which kind of sucks in case I want to try other roms. My titanium backup was fine (although there were some widgets that didn't work when I recovered them).

My second problem was I kept getting errors when I tried to play words with friends. I saw another thread where someone said the problem was to do with the adfree app that comes with leedroid. I followed those instructions and I've got words with friends working now (but with ads - not a real problem for me).

Now I'm just trying to figure out how to get rid of that r2d2 sound when I turn on my phone and leedroid boots up.

Anyone know how to fix the backup problem? Thanks!

Have you tried backing up through ROM manager?

I think both times I did it using the down volume and power button to get to the recovery screen and then did it through CWM. I do have the CWM rom manager but I thought it would be better doing it the other way.

Kind of hesitant to try it out again cause I've already had to redo it a bunch of times and each time I had to reflash and restore backups through titanium (which is a pain... guess I should get the pro version) and then reset the widgets.

Did you ascertain your erase size before rooting?

Also you can't always restore everything via titanium. "restore missing apps with data" is my recommended option

There is a problem that affects some people where they get stuck in a bootloop after their first nandroid backup. Stuck on the white screen doesn't sound quite the same, but I wonder whether this is related? The cure for that one is to restore from the backup you just made.

Main thing that makes me hesitate to suggest this is that SUroot hasn't, since he certainly knows about this one.

As for ROM Manager, that's the one app I remove from my ROM...

Knowing and remembering are 2 different things. Dont let the fact I didnt mention it fool you into it not being the right answer ;)

Good call!

So, pennyandrusty, if you fancy risking one more install you could try that: take a nandroid, then restore from it. If it is a variant of the "corrupts the rom on the first backup" bug that should be the end if it - it's not something you need to do every time you back up.

Actually, that was the first thing I tried since I figured that it said the backup worked. But I still had the freeze on the white htc screen. When that didn't work, i reflashed the rom from the beginning. So far, it's stable so I'm just happy about that.

You need the ability to backup so its worth testing that again
