Help Problem with Partitioning SD Card

Stan71

Lurker
I have successfully used GParted to partition my new SD Card using the card reader in my laptop. I have created a 7 GB FAT32 partition and a 1 GB EXT3 partition. When I install it in my phone and connect via USB, the FAT32 partition appears as expected. When I return the SD to the card readed in my laptop and boot under XP, it says the drive is not formatted asks if I want to format it. Formatting removes the EXT3 partition.

Is this normal or have I missed something ?

I am keen to have the FAT32 partition visible via the card reader rather than having it loaded in the phone to transfer files to and from the card.

Thanks

Formatting the cards fat32 partition will not touch the ext3. I don't think it's even possible to format the ext3 in windows, since it's Linux...

I haven't had a ext partition for a while, but I don't remember being able to do anything to it via windows.

When you go back to GParted, do you still have the ext3 partition on your card?

Windows can only ever see the first partition of any sd card. Formatting the fat partition in windows should leave the ext alone

Formatting in the phone however may remove it
