Help Problem with random shutting down

I have had two instances where my Note would not just wake up on pressing the Home or Power button. I am not sure if it is just the screen that goes dead or the phone itself powers off.

Both the times , my phone was in pocket and my theory is that probably the power button got pressed for 10 seconds or so and this caused the phone to power off.

Your thoughts?

There is a reported problem with a build up of static that can cause an issue.

I believe this is the sleep of death that a number of poeple are complaining about. It seems to happen to me once every two weeks or so which it not bad given the amount of use my phone sees (I have taken to playing FPS games on the phone). I am still rebooting a lot less than my previous phone so I cannot complain.

I am using BatteryXL but I doubt that is the issue. Sometimes the problem happens when I switch off the display and then immediately try to turn it back on. I cannot say that I have seen a pattern so far, but I am still taking notes.

Regards,
Eric Ritchie.

I've still not had a repeat so far since I dumped BatteryXL though it seems to be a stock installed app that is the route cause.

Happened to me twice in a couple weeks. The last time was after I was showing a friend Shadow Gun, In the middle of the game I exited the game, then just crashed all of a sudden. I took out Battery XL, to see if it happens again.

I'm not worried.

Mine has shut down at random 3 times in the last month. Had to remove battery each time to restart it. Very annoying when it happened during the night and the alarm didn't go off....

really hope ICS makes the phone a bit more reliable.

I had this problem before but now it never happens....

It used to be the apps and background services....There are lot of apps (bg services) with a lot of bugs which tries to force close while having some issues but since its unable to do that, restarts or shuts down the mobile....mostly the net based apps....

Luckily I recognized those apps and the problem never occurred again.....

For the last few days my Samsung Galaxy Note is randomly shutting down nexpectedly and also everytime Date/Time got reset.
The last operation i did is inserted one 32GB (Class10) card. But no idea if that is causing any issue.
If anyone have idea please respond.

Thanks

If this only started happening after you inserted the sd card, then it makes sense to assume it is the sd card that's the problem. Turn off your phone and remove the sd card. Turn on the phone and see if the problem goes away. If it does, try using a different sd card and see what happens.

I believe this is a software bug. Try to disable your wifi before leaving your wifi network area. This problem happen to me whenever my phone try to communicate with a "valid" wifi network. I always try to turn off my wifi function whenever I don't need it. Whenever I forget to turn off the wifi function before I leave my wifi access area, the phone will surely restart itself after about 15 to 30 minutes and it will continue to do so until I go to a wifi spot where my phone has access right. I could not even turn off the wifi function if the phone cannot detect an "accessable" wifi spot.

Hi James.

I leave my Wi-Fi on most of the time and don't have any issues with the phone restarting. What Android version are you running and are you rooted?

What are your wifi settings?

Mine are: Network Notification=Unticked.

Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep=Always

Wi-Fi frequency band=Auto

This does happen when I put in my secondary battery but while i took out the battery because that was the only way to get it going again before I put it in I took out the SD memory and put it back in. I know I did not dismount it but it was a spur of the moment but since doing that 2 days gone and have not shutdown. I think eventhough I did not dismount the sd should be fine maybe before i change i would dismount it.

This happens to the Note 2 as well and is not software related. The problem is hardware related. The phone is flawed and shuts off on it's own under various conditions, all hardware related. Take a look at this video: 20130413_212624.mp4 - YouTube

Also, take a look at this site I built that goes in to more detail regarding the issue: Verizon Galaxy Note 2 Shuts Off

One look at that short video and I am sure there will be some light bulbs going off. Be sure to read the details I provided on that site as well. They go in to detail about the problems that I have had and the lack of proper support that Samsung is willing to provide.
