Problem with resolution

Hello everyone.

I was wondering if anyone knows something about this, or a way to fix it.

Two days ago I bought a 8" tablet they say it's a clone of the Gadmei E8-HDS.

The problem is, the device specs say that the resolution is 1280x768. The android UI looks ok, nothing unusual about it, but when I play a 1280x720 video, it takes the whole screen, and the heads get a little stretched and the circles look like ovals.

So I started testing system info tools: Some of them say the display is 1280x768, and others say 1280x720. Games play ok, I haven't seen a game stretched yet, but the video always suffers from enlarged heads.

Simple math: If the screen is 1280x768 and the video playing is 1280x720, thats 48 pixels (24 on top, 24 on bottom) that should make two nice black lines, but no, the video fills the whole screen. It doesn't matter if I changed between the simple modes (4/3, 16/9, fullscreen), because that does nothing.

3rd party players installed also do this, but in addition they keep the android taskbar in the bottom, so then a portion of the picture gets hidden.

Im guessing that somewhere in the tablet's system files there's a description of the video area that's wrongfully saying it's a 1280x720 display, but what I am refering to? build.prop? another file? something else entirely?

And finally, any way to fix this without root or custom roms?

Thank you very much.
