Hello, Have a question for you guys! When I try to root my EVO 4G, using the tacoroot method, I get all the way to the step where I do "cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image", and it says "No such file or directory".

android version: 2.3.5
build number: 5.07.651.1 710RD

welcome to AF!!!!!!!
are the file on your sd card? did you extract them? they need to be extracted and moved to the sd card.

ok they need to be extracted that is why your pc can't find it when you type the command in. erase the files on the sd card and move the extracted ones onto the card and try again.

I extracted them from their zip files, and then moved them onto the sd card, theyre not zip files on my sd card, the actual flash_image and mtd-eng.iso files

so when you tried taco root, the files were extracted then? if so and it did not see it then something is wrong.

are you sure you are entering the command correctly? are you entering the command from the right folder? it has to be from the adb folder.

what size card do you have?

Yes, its from the android folder where adb.exe is, and yes I double checked, correct command, the sd card is 2gb (I just realized this, is that the problem?)

most likely yes. i need to add this into the guide. for some reason the og evo has issues with 2g cards. you will need at the least an 8g card.

Ok, so I went out today and bought a brand new 16gb sdcard, and im still having the exact same problem..

Any thoughts?

Also, occasionally, it pops up in windows task bar and says "Device not recognized", but I see the "HTC Android Phone USB device" in device manager.

Also, when I boot into the recovery and hold vol-up+vol-down+power after the red exclamation screen, in yellow at the bottom it says "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command"

My apollagies, for some reason I tried the captain method, and it worked perfectly.
I now have root, and clockworkmod installed.

Thanks so much for your help!

Happy that you got it rooted!! :D

You've got the hard part done and even though you have Clockwork recovery installed you might think about upgrading it. Smelkus is more current and doesn't have the possible issues that come with Clockwork. I added a link to it below if you want to take a look.

Let us know if you have more questions and enjoy you're newly rooted Evo!!!

now like biker57 has said, i would alos recommend not using cwm as it has been known to be very buggy and it does not wipe well creating more issues then it is worth using.....just my .02;)
