i just thought doing the OTA took away your root, but didn't brick the damn thing.
my only thought OP is to pull the battery and replace.
hold power and volume down until you get to the bootloader screen
wipe data
and reboot.
you will loos all your apps and contacts but once you sign in they should all start downloading again.
also, you may be able to place a "PG05IMG.ZIP) file of an OTA on your SD card and flash it through Hboot and get you back to complete 100% out of the box state. this will at least get you to a usable phone, then from there you can take the OTA or root and flash a roote friendly version of the OTA to keep root and the latest software.
but from now on, Dont try the OTA over top of a rooted system. if you were running Gingerbread or CM7 or something not even close to stock 2.2.1 sense you could run into some serious issues.
