problem with upgrade to Android 2.3.5

Hello, I have 2.3.3 version; I downloaded the upgrade and chose to intall it later (as the menu said). But after a week, the notification which remineded me that the update was ready to be intalled disappeared. So I dowloaded it again (and it seems to me that the memory space was less after this), but a mesage informed me, roughly, that "the system has been changed; for safety reasons, installation is not possibile; do a software reset before". Questions: 1. how can I avoid the reset? 2. If I can't avoid it, I'd like, at least, to do a backup of my sms ON THE PHONE; I use go sms pro and it does backup; but does it also delete the sms? Are we sure that the sms on THE SIM, will be left on the sim? Thanks.

Question 1: I don't have any idea why it's asking to reset and I'm baffled by the "for safety reasons, installation is not possible" message. Maybe the new ROM was corrupted in the download process or somehow managed to corrupt your current ROM. If it were me, I'd update the ROM anyway, at least because of the additional memory you'll gain back along with other refinements in the ROM. Help here if you need it:

Question 2: Go SMS Pro stores the backed-up messages on the SD card and a reset does not format the SD card, so they'll be safe after the reset.

I'm concerned about the sms on the SIM card; does the backup delete sms? Does backup backups even sms on the SIM card?

I can't upgrade, Android tells me that I can't! Only chance it gives me is to reset...sorry but which memory are you talking about? This upgrade will take (according a message) 40MB; since I don't already have root permession on the rom, this means that I'm going to have the rom full after this update. Is it true?

I don't know about backing up SMS on the SIM because I don't store them, but I'm sure it can be done. Try Google.

If you follow the guide above you can update regardless of the message, and you don't need root. The update to 2.3.5 will give you additional system memory for apps, about 20-30 mb, which goes a long way.
