Root Problems after splashing phone with ocean water

Putting this in the All Things Root section simply because, well, I'm rooted. I can't help but hope the issues I'm having may have to do with the custom ROM I am using (Angry Bean) and not water damage. Anyhow, I was at the beach a couple of days ago and taking pictures with the phone, in the surf up to my knees. Didn't drop it or anything, but as I walked back up to the sand i accidentally kicked up some water which splashed on the phone. I wiped it off, not thinking to turn it off or anything as it was merely a splash on the face of the phone, not submersion. Didn't use the phone for a couple hours after that, when I woke up the phone to navigate us home and saw that the screen was flickering between dim, bright, and off. I turned it off and removed the battery at that point, suspecting water damage. When we got home I gave it an overnight dry rice bath and turned it on. Screen flickering is gone entirely (yay!).
However now I'm having issues where the vibrator works intermittently. When it does come on I here a fairly loud click, or knocking sound preceding the vibration. THAT sounds like a hardware issue, for sure and I'm sure it's due to the water.
But the other issues I'm having seem like issues I'd normally blame on the ROM and try a re-flash (which I've done). These issues include phantom or ghost touches somewhere around the bottom of the screen, the BACK function (as if pressing the capacitive button) pressing itself, screen comes on by itself when asleep and sits on lockscreen. Also when trying the re-flash I could not ever connect to Google's servers for account setup.
Basically I already know the answer, but is there ANY REMOTE POSSIBILITY of the splash being a crazy coincidence and have something for me to try? As it is I've already sent the email for an insurance replacement, but haven't heard back from them yet. If anyone's got any ideas, I can still cancel that. Thanks in advance, even if it's just bad news :(

I got nothing as I don't delve heavily into rooting.
But it does sound like you had more than a splash of water hit your phone.
Best of luck getting things sorted out.

It's hard to believe that the water damage could only be coincidence. I know you are just trying to hang on to a thread of hope but at the very least, even if it is a coincidence, you are looking at hardware failure. So even if there is no water damage, you definitely need a replacement in my opinion. Hope it works out okay for you :)

You're brave though. Here it is you had your phone in the water at the beach. Mine doesn't get near the kitchen sink. My phone is never in close proximity to water.

Well I've pretty much accepted that the water is what did it. :( Luckily all function has come back since I posted, minus the vibrator- That's completely borked now. When I shake the phone I hear it rattling, as if it's come off the board. Anyway Virgin finally got back to me saying that the Evo V's were on back-order and to keep checking back every week or so. (Says something about their customer service, if you ask me. I'm sure Verizon would contact ME when the phones came in. Sure, it's a prepaid company, but I'm just sayin'.) Anywho, does anyone know exactly what "on back-order" means? Are they waiting for more to be manufactured? Waiting for more old ones to get sent in and refurbed? Just curious. I can live without my vibrator til they get some in stock but just wondering if I should be expecting a new one or a refurb.

Someone posted in the main, non-root section about this phone being EoL (end of life) and was offered a choice of another phone if I remember correctly. I haven't seen one for sale in a retail location in a while. Also, now that I think about it, the phone specialist at my local Super Target had said a few months ago that they were selling the Evo 3D on the Sprint network again at a rather large discount (don't remember exactly how much), so that may have been a push to get rid of remaining backstock.
I could be wrong tho, haven't done any research on it myself yet.

Virgin's policy is to replace all phones outside of the first 30 days with a class c, this is a phone that was returned, supposedly inspected and then the bare phone, no battery, sd card or cover is placed in a box and shipped to you. This is the same policy as every other carrier I have ever dealt with, except unlike most, they will cross ship the replacement without receiving the original or putting a hold on your credit card. :p

"I can live without my vibrator til they get some in stock but just wondering if I should be expecting a new one or a refurb." YOU DON'T SAY. ;) I think I'd love to have a refurbished vibrator. Lmfao. Gotta make a joke to lighten the mood.

I hope they get some replacements in soon. That sure is a fairly odd hardware failure. I'd probably get bored and take it apart to see if k can fix it myself haha!

All the vibration motor consists of is a shaft with an eccentric weight attached, it probably came loose and that's the rattle you are hearing.
