Root Problems flashing Miui roms

Hello

I am currently running the Android Revolution HD rom which is running without any problems apart from battery drain. Previously I ran Cyanogenmod 7.1 without too many problems.

However, every time I try to run any Miui roms, my phone crashes and goes into a constant loop and I have to restore the previous rom. It's a real shame as I absolutely love the look of the Miui roms. Any ideas? Also, the last time I tried to run one, I forgot to do a wipe, so the battery life has been even more shocking. Not sure I can really recover from that, but any help in trying a new rom would be much appreciated. I'm not technical but can do the basics now.

Hmm. The first thing that springs to mind is, are you backing up and restoring anything other than user apps when you switch roms? Carrying across any system apps, or the data for system apps, is risky at the best of times, but it would be worse for significantly different roms such as sense -> miui.

Thanks. I did wonder. I've been backing up and restoring everything using Titanium Backup. Last night I tried flashing a Miui rom from their own website and was careful not to restore everything. It hasn't crashed! I think I will only restore apps, not data.

The only weird thing with this new rom is that some of the wording is in Chinese. Not sure why!

Did you get the ROM from miui.com? That is the official website, but supplies the Chinese version as the main one. The version for the English language MIUI is from MIUIAndroid - Redefining Android.

However I would recommend this ROM, which is the best MIUI one I have used - [ROM] RD-MIUI 2.3.23[EN] (quietly MIUI) 26/3/12 - xda-developers

Aaaha! Yes, I did get it from their website. That's why! OK, I will try out your recommendation. I really love the look of Miui. :)

I just wish I hadn't made my battery worse than it was already. I did read a post on xda about battery problems and the person recommended using Current Widget I think to monitor the use. Might give it a go.

Hi. I flashed that last rom from xda. I'm not sure what has gone wrong but for some reason there is something wrong with the wifi setting in that I can't make it work. If I try to download anything from Google Play, it won't let me as it says 'download size requires wifi'. I've tried wiping the dalvik (?) and reflashing but it's the same. About to try and download the file again and have another go....

Out of interest, I flashed the Miui.us Rom from Rom Manager and it seems to be working perfectly.

The only strange thing since I started having problems is that my SD card is almost full. I'm not sure if files have duplicated themselves. I'm a bit worried that if I tried to delete something it might cause problems. Don't suppose there's an app for that/an easy fix?

A good app to look at what is taking up space is Storage Analyser - https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mNvbS5sZXZlbG9rbWVudC5zdG9yYWdlYW5hbHlzZXIiXQ..
which will show you everything (in order of size) that is on the sd card.

Have you downloaded most of your ROMs from ROM Manager? Every time you download from there it will keep the zip file of the ROM in a folder. This folder can be found in SD Card > clockworkmod > download; you can then look through all the folders there and find any ROM zips and delete them (they are perfectly safe to delete.)

If you're unsure of anything that you want to delete post the name of it up here and someone can check :)

Thank you very much. I've downloaded Storage Analyser and there is a lot under ClockworkMod. Also, I restored back to when I had Revolution HD, then I uninstalled Rom Manager and I have just reinstalled Miui US. Just reinstalling apps and data via Titanium Backup (yet again!) and then I'll see if I can do a backup as I was having trouble backing up. This problem had occurred ever since I'd tried to install the other Miui rom. We'll see how it goes, but I will probably ask about certain files. Many thanks for all the help so far. It's all in simple English too! Perfect for me :)
