Root Problems installing Droid X Recovery Bootloader

I am having problems getting Droid X Recovery installed.

I just recently SBF'd my X (and wiped data/cache) with VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01.sbf. My X is now Version.2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US

Then I successfully ran Z4root permanent.

However, when I try to run Droidx.bootstrap.apk from Astro, I get a "could not open /mnt/sdcard/droidx.bootstrap.apk as APK file." From root explorer, I get "Parse error - There is a problem parsing the package."

Additionally, from ROM Manager, I chose "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and it says I have ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7, but when I choose "Reboot into Recovery" it just reboots the phone - but not into recovery.

I have "Unknown sources" for installations checked.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

You may also have tried to install the 4kb version that will show up on your SD card. Try scrolling down till you see another version that has 1861kb for DX bootstrap, or 2398kb for droid2 bootstrap

It was the 4Kb version once, didn't know what that was about. But have tried the 1.82M version, a couple of times.

Will try the droid2 version.

You will need Droid X Bootstrap since you are on Froyo. The file name doesn't sound right. Why don't you redownload DX Bootstrap and run directly from the download source? I think that will solve your issue.

Well.. I think I've tried that a couple of times, I'll try again. Can you point me to a URL that you think is the right one, since you think my filename sounds odd?

The original link at koushikdutta doesn't work, I got it from some mirrors in the comments there...

Not sure what is going on with your installation problems, but Droid 2 Bootstrap will work on all the froyo builds, and will continue working on GB, so its the better option right now.

Try the one @ Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap v1.0.0.3.apk

Thanks for clarification. I assumed that the X bootstrap only worked for GB and X version used to be what everyone said to use when on Froyo. Why on earth didn't they just put D2/DX Bootstrap in one file? Would have made things much more simple and streamlined.

Koush (the developer) isn't even sure why the Droid 2 Bootstrap works on GB while the X one doesn't. Apparently they're practically identical.

Doesn't matter really, as we can use Droid 2 Bootstrap on any Droid X build, so just use what works.
