Help problems other than battery?

cesiumxrs

Newbie
Hey guys,
I'm new here, but I've been looking to get a new phone for a while. I've been researching phones for a couple of days now and would like to test out the 4g in my area. I've looked at the charge and thunderbolt. I really don't like how the charge looks aesthetically, but the screen is amazing! I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on any of the newer phones current or coming out and right now I'm leaning towards getting the bolt. I've read about the battery problems so I know to buy an extended battery and I am planning to do so off the bat if I get this phone. So I was wondering if there is anything else I should know about before purchasing. Thanks any input would be appreciated!

Welcome to AF cesiumxrs :D

I think battery complaints are the biggest complaint I have about the bolt is I am not a Sense fan at all. This can easily be fixed by using a 3rd party launcher or rooting. I don't know how familiar you are with Android or Linux so I won't go too far into some things right now. The bolt is a great phone IMO the hardware is capable of lasting another 2 years if you were to get one right now. I am not sure about your upgrade status or if you are looking to switch to VZW right now but currently it is a great time to be purchasing a new phone. You may want to check out http://wireless.amazon.com/f/pennypincher they have dropped prices on most phones to a penny so you may be able to pick up a newer phone for almost nothing :D

Edit: It may just be my internet but the amazon site I linked is going slow for me right now so you have to be patient if you try going there ;)

New here too but I bought mine in may and have to say the start was a little rough, from restarts, to sending texts to the wrong person and taking forever to get the gb update, but now since they've worked out the major bugs I have to say the phone is great, with the extended battery. Plus you probably knew you can get one I believe on black Friday at best buy with rebates for free. And I'd say the bolt is still one of the best looking phones out there. A few small things that some have had problems with are that the dialer has been acting up and using a good percentage of the battery, resets on a rare occasion, the keyboard and spell check for me isn't the greatest and data connections aren't the absolute greatest. Overall a great phone though in my opinion, esp since others are buying new phones and having to go through the same process of having problems with a new release phone, waiting for the bugs to get worked out

I agree the GB update has fixed most the issues people were having :D I am not sure if the newer phones will have as many issues since it seems to me the TB had some problems due to it being the first VZW 4G phone and it's release may have been slightly rushed.

My only complaint about the TB is occasional data drops. The radio in the TB is the first of it's kind and definitely needs some improvement.

I've had the phone since June and love it. I plan on upgrading but may keep the bolt until next year. If you're getting the extended then you have nothing to worry about. Good luck.

thats weird...since after the MR2 update i have had a VERY solid Data connection. honestly cant think of a time it dropped.

to the OP, if you are aware of the battery "problems" with this phone, you will be very happy with it. it is fast, smooth, nice camera, good data connection, good cell connection, nice voice quality on both ends, GPS locks on instantly, screen is nice (not as nice as the charge but still very nice IMO)

and if you are into customizing and tinkering, this is a fantastic phone.
we have AOSP ROMs, Sense ROMs, Miui ROMs, and probably Ice Cream Sandwich fairly soon as well.

Fortunately it only happens on rare occasion but it's annoying when it does happen. Other than that I'm very happy with my phone. I get better battery life than with OG Droid.

You must have had a bad OG Droid battery lol. Mine lasted 10 years longer than the TB in any capacity.

BTW all the 4g batteries on verizonwireless.com are still 50% off as of last night. I got an extended w/ cover for 24.95$. Picked up a single battery charger for 5$ as well. Free shipping.

thanks for the input guys!! really really appreciate it.. I was almost about to just buy the iphone 4... just to save money, but i think the thunderbolt will be a much better investment...

oh yeah and i'm upgrading from my current phone to a new phone on verizon... not a new activation.... @97'es how did you get that deal is it at checkout or is there a code??

Yeah that part of the site appears to be down. Either way it's two day shipping ... I ordered late monday night, if I dont get it by Monday at the latest I'll bitch to verizon. I sent them an email and Im waiting to hear back, but im not too worried about it

I have the extended batt and between that and the GB update, I've never had my phone go below 40% in the 11-12 hr stretch it's unplugged during the day. On light use days it's often 80% batt left.

That's with 4g, bluetooth, GPS, brightness cranked, and nothing optimized for battery. I don't run any widgets except the weather one. I have the FB app (not the crappy widget), 2 gmail accounts, and various social apps syncing with notifications.

While the GB update fixed most things I really had probs with, I still do catch a few bugs. Things like last night, I was trying to turn the ringer down to go to bed and I could only adjust the media volume even though no apps were running, had to reboot. Also, sometimes old text notifications pop up as new that I have to go in and re-clear, but maybe it's related to mightytext which I use with Chrome. Also, yeah internet lags sometimes badly and will sit for a minute trying to load a simple Google search. I will grab my wife's iPhone when it does this and hers loads fine on VZ 3g.

Other than normal bugs like that the top button is sunk in and hard to push.

If you get the extended battery, know that the case flexes and creaks a bit if that bothers you. Makes it seem cheap, but it's because it's so large and sticks out from the phone.

With my original problems (tons of bugs, freezes, and reboots) I couldn't wait to get rid of this phone, then the GB update came and I'm happy with it. However, my son's bday is next week. He really wants a phone and loves my TBolt, so I'm giving it to him and haven't decided what to get yet.

Other than the battery issues, my only complaint is that it doesn't have a quad core processor and a full hd screen. Otherwise, it's a great phone.

No really, there were some massive dealbreaker bugs in the very beginning when it launched but htc did something right: they worked on it and sent out bug fixes that took care of most of our problems and it's a better phone now than it was when it was released.

Considering how cheap they're making it for the holiday season and depending on your needs, i think the thunderbolt is an amazing choice

And what phone out right now has a quad core processor.

I have had this phone since april and now on my third one. I still like the phone and when you root it just gets better. As far as battery life goes. Who cares about it. You use your phone like a computer and its going to drain fast no matter what type phone it is (android or apple.). I got the rezound battery and so far I am happy with the performance of the battery in the bolt. So its a nice alternative if you dont want the extended battery bulky look.

hey guys... sorry for the late relpy... i really appreciate all the info, but i decided to go with the rezound.... still keeping it in the android family, but it just seemed like a better deal... thanks again
