Help Problems sync / link 'ing to facebook...

I've been a Palm user since the early 2000's I remember everybody being so impressed with the touch screen. Palm was so innovative back then. And as much as I loved the Palm webOS, I felt like the hardware (and Marketing) was really lacking. In the last two years I had my Pre replaced 9 times for hardware problems...
Yesterday, I picked up My first Andriod HTC EVO Shift. I'm having some problems getting things to work on it. My neighbor has one as well and didn't have the problems I'm having. Like it won't sync / link with my Facebook. I open the contacts, click on the name, in the top right corner there is a button that says "link" I press the button which takes me to a page that has a "suggestion" with the Facebook link. I press the link button and it turns green. I hit "done" it doesn't link. My neighbor said his linked automatically. My Pre linked automatically... When I go back to the link suggestion page, the link isn't green, its grey... What gives? Every other phone does this easy.

Click on these buttons... Hard key Menu>settings>accounts and sync and make sure it is set to sync facebook for you.

ok, i just tried that... it says I'm sync' ing with Facebook for HTC Sence, Google, News, Stocks, Weather... I hit the button that says "add account" it gives me a few more options, including regular "Facebook" but when i tap the "Facebook" button, it flashes green for a second but thats it. if i hold the button down, it'll stay green till I let go, but that's it... nothing, no little check mark. it doesnt add it...

if I tap any other of the add sync options, It'll take me to a sign in page for whatever that sync is for, but the facebook button.... Nothing

Do you have the facebook app installed? That sounds weird... I haven't heard of this phone having any issues syncing with facebook.

I have the EXACT same problem and posted it about it here very recently.. no one was able to help me. I too will click "link" and it does nothing. I finally gave up on the HTC Facebook sync program because 1) it didn't work completely and 2) it imported all of my FB friends into my phone, so when I imported my phone contacts into my car address book via bluetooth, instead of importing 78 contacts like with my old BlackBerry, it imported 231 contacts into my car because of all my Facebook friends! What the heck!?

But yes.. my phone won't link them either. I just gave up. People that don't experience it don't understand.

I have talked to Sprint Tech support over a dozen times over the last two weeks. My phone is doing the same thing, I press the link and its turns green but when I check it later its not linked. I also get this Error message randomly starting a few days after i recieved the phone. "The application Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly. please try again." The only thing you can do is press the "Force Close" tab. Sprint claims they never heard of it and have no idea, The retail store told me it would be a 4 to 5 hour wait to evaluate the phone. this was a week old phone.it should not be this difficult Sprint.

Ok, so there is a way to fix this. Its not a fun way and it may take some time but here goes...

The contact name in your phonebook has to be the exact same as the persons name in facebook.
example: John Wright Smith - contact name
John Smith - Facebook name

You must change the contact name to John Smith and then relink. Worked for me. ALSO****

The other issue is when the names correct, you have to go into the contact and edit it to make it different (add an 'a' or whatever really quick). Then you must go back in, change it back to match the facebook name and relink. yet again, worked for me.

Happy name changing!! :D

If you have a Force Close error, it is a time to hard reset and think about the apps you have installed.

I was having the same issue. As someone stated in an earlier post, I un-installed "Facebook for Android" and immediately reinstalled and it automatically synced my accounts again. Hope this helped!

ok i had the same issue but recently figured it out... once you are in your contacts list simply click the menu button -> view -> then check the facebook for android contacts. I also checked the box that said phone number only.

i also have the same problem. i use to have the palm pre and never had any problems with that phone. had the same pre from when it first came out. switched cause im moving to chicago and there is 4g coverage there. but ive done everything if found in these forums and still cant link contacts to facebook. even the post before me. that didnt work. it just put the facebook friends in my contacts so now i have double of almost everyone.

so this is weird. on my pre contacts list my grandpa was names grandpa in the contacts. he is on facebook surprisingly when i had sprint transfer my contacts he was under his full name instead of grandpa. i couldnt link him. i changed his contact name to grandpa and then i was able to link him to his facebook.

so this is how it works for me. all my names in my contacts are the same as their facebook names. so mary swanson trying to link to facebook mary swanson doesnt work but if i change her name to harry buffalo then it lets me link to mary swanson facebook. then i change it back. weird

actually i dont even have to change the name. if i go in to a contact select edit tap the name and just retype it and save then it lets me link

Nice! Sounds like a fair solution to a common problem... I have since deleted my facebook account, so I will be of no help to confirm or deny that your fix works for everyone....
