Root Problems Tethering my evo

I rooted my phone and my mac sees it in airport but I still can access the web??? Any ideas on why this isn't working as a hot spot? Does sprint block rooted phones?

Hello and welcome to the forums, tripletsquared.

I've moved your query into the All Things Root area of EVO's device forums for you.

Do you have the WiFi turned on??? If so, turn it off and turn on 3g (or 4g if you're in a 4g area).

sprint doesnt block rooted phones, On myn's rom you have the wireless tether and the hacked sprint hot spot, I find that the sprint hot spot works better. But to use wireless tether it should work just like any other wireless router that you have used in the past....

Frenchy714......I really need your help! I read how you helped folks in All Things Root and I have a similar problem. I'm trying to use my DroidX as a hotspot for my iPad. I rooted with z4root. It worked like a dream. I downloaded Wireless Tether from the market. My phone says it's tethering and it shows as a wifi source on my iPad, but I still can't get Internet access. I read what you said about turning off the wifi and turning on the 3G . I can't find how to do that. If you have time...I'd appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!

Basically, you need your phone connected to the internet via either 3g or 4g. When you turn on wifi on your phone, and it connects, it will turn off the 3g/4g radio. The wifi tether app is programmed to handle the wifi connection part without you turning on the wifi radio. If you do, you turn off the wifi tether app's only way out to the internet. Therefore, you can connect devices to your phone, but not to the internet from there.

To turn off wifi, you can do this:

menu->settings->wireless and networks->uncheck the option to have wifi on. You can also use one of the many, many wifi toggle widgets out there, which is much quicker. This, of course, only applies if your wifi is connected. So, if you are trying this at home, and have your phone connected to wifi, this is your problem. Otherwise, something else might be wrong.

Download a different version of the wifi tether app. Just google it. Most people find success with pre9 and pre11.

My wife and I both have rooted stock Evo's and we both were using wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre9.apk. this was working great for several months. Now neither of us can get connected via our laptops or iPads. I changed versions to pre14 and then pre11 with no luck. The laptops and iPads see the network but do not seem to be connected.
I've tried everything I've read about in this and other forums, but so far no luck. What happened, and why all of a sudden.
