Help Problems with Getting past Lock Screen

mclean15

Newbie
I bought a used captivate about 2 weeks ago off of eBay. Everythig worked great until a few days ago. I can not unlock my phone anymore. After booting it up it starts spazzing out at the lock screen. It becomes unresponsive and lights up and dims on it's own. Runs stock 2.1. Just want I can do to wipe my data off the phone because even holding the two volume buttons at start up does nothing for me. Thanks.

You may end up having to do a factory data reset using the button combination method, but first I'd try removing the SD card (with the device turned off) and having a look at its contents, using the adaptor, on your computer.

If things look messed up (borked names or strange looking file trees, etc), there's your problem. You'll then have the choice of formatting it there, or just getting a new one.

If things look fine, it might be time to do that hard reset:

  1. Turn the power off. If your Samsung Captivate is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
  2. Hold the Volume Down button
  3. Press and release the Power button
  4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
  5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
  6. Press and release the Power button
  7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
