Help Problems with Kies

I've had a Note 10.1 for a couple of weeks (I love it!). I downloaded Kies to keep my calendar synced and to transfer photos. I've used it twice and both times it's worked OK, if taking ages. However, today Kies refuses to recognise the Note - even after going through the troubleshooting, re-downloading the driver, restarting the computer (what a pain), twice. I eventually uninstalled, re-downloaded, and reinstalled Kies. It worked once and now has fallen over again - it declares that the device is not supported on Kies.

Does this happen often to other peeps? Is there any point in having Kies at all? I note there's now a Google calendar option, and presumably I can keep Outlook, Google and the Note synced via that. Photos and music I can just transfer using the Note as an extra drive. So is there something really clever about Kies that I haven't noticed, or shall I just uninstall it and forget about it?

This happens to me all the time, it also used to with my phone.

I always keep ending up connecting and disconnecting a few times before kies loads my device, very annoying!

I don't think there is a big need for kies, the only thing i ever use it for it updating the fw, if i can do that ota then i don't use it for anything else.

Good! I've now gone in for a Google calendar, which was a pain to install (took several syncs to get everything, can't imagine why), but is now functioning fine and keeping Outlook and the Note working together. Thanks for the encouragement!
