Root Problems with mass storage

I have a quick question. I have a new Captivate. I have rooted it, and loaded all the goodies so to not have any Samsung/ATT bloatware on board. I use DroidExplorer to access what is on the Droid, and have Kies installed with the latest Win7 64 bit drivers. My problem is, my PC does not pick up my Droid at all in mass storage or media player modes. Kies doesn't, doubleTwist doesn't, WMP doesn't and Winamp does. Basically, nothing at all. It did one time today, but after that, nothing. When I go to add new devices in CP, it shows up as a device, but I can't access it. I have a 4 gb microSD inside. I have no idea how to fix this. I have reviewed all my settings, but I can't find a solution. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, forevernhim.

I'm wondering if you have the correct/latest drivers installed on your computer for your device.

Thanks for the quick response! I'm not sure if this is correct, but I have the latest Kies build, and it's completely updated. I have seen my device on my PC before, so it should have the proper drivers installed. With that said, I just put my phone in USB debug mode, and Windows 7 recognized it, said it installed drivers, but I'm still unable to see my device in mass storage. I just turned USB debugging off, plugged it back in, loaded Kies, and now it's just sitting at the connecting to device screen. I have not added any apps since I last accessed my phone from my PC. The only thing I can think I have done is I unmounted my 4 gig SD card, but I have since re-mounted it. In the time it took me to post this, Kies is still trying to connect to my device. Thanks for the help!

One other thing. I can access the device in DroidExplorer, but I must put the phone in USB debugging mode. Do you always have to do that to access these files?

Here is how I solved it.

1. Turn on USB Debugging.

2. Plug your phone into your computer.

3. In your phone's notification area at the top of the screen, it will say "USB Connected" and then "USB Debugging Connected."

4. Go to your phone's home screen and pull down the notification bar. There will be a row that says "USB Connected -- Select to copy files to/from your computer." Click there.

5. A dialog will appear with two buttons: Mount and Don't Mount. Click Mount.

6. The Mass Storage will appear on your computer. Whew!

Thanks for the reply. I figured this out about a week after I posted. Then I flashed 2.2 Froyo on my phone, and the button comes right up when you connect via usb. I was getting confused when it said "USB connected" in the notification bar. To me, that means you phone is connected via USB, but in 2.1, that just means you plugged it in. Thanks again :)

I've had the same issue, downloaded the new drivers, I've done the mount to usb also, hasn't worked at all. It works on my old computer, so I use that when I really want to transfer anything. But new computer, on windows 7, nope.
