Help Problems with my second hand Desire

I just bought a second hand desire and having some issues with it. I tried using the unlock Utility v 0.9.5, but I get error 13a.
Then I tried to enter recovery from hboot, but I just see a screen that looks like a phone with a red triangle at its side.

adb devices doesn't recognize the device, and neither does htc sync.
Also alpharev doesn't recognize it either.

I didn't realize until I came home, but the back torx and phillips screws have some scratches on them, but the void stickers on the 2 right side torx look untouched

The phone is running HTC Sense, and the provider is Telus. I'm trying to unlock it to use with my Virgin sim

With the unlock utility, I had to install HTC sync (then uninstall it leaving behind just the drivers) and install the hboot drivers to get adb and the unlocker to work.

Theres a step by step to installing the hboot drivers in the unrevoked rooting guide in my signature.
